Want to Go to Las Vegas or Reno but Don't Want the Crowds: Visit Winnemucca, Nevada Instead

So the Crowds Are What Scare You Away from a Great Adventure in Nevada - Visit Winnemucca and Experience a Small Piece of Adventure

CJMathis
Never been to Las Vegas or Reno the reason being that you don't like the crowds. Don't visit the local Indian Casinos because lets be honest, they don't pay out like the casinos in Nevada. Here is a great place to visit in Nevada to enjoy a Las Vegas or Reno experience without the huge crowds. We discovered the attraction in Winnemucca when my brother and his wife invited my husband and I to visit with them one great summer weekend.

Winnemucca is a great little town on Highway 80 in Northern Nevada. Winnemucca is a small community with just a few small casinos all located within walking distance of each other. Each casino has it's own little attraction for the visitor in Winnemucca.

Winner's Hotel and Casino
185 W Winnemucca Blvd
Winnemucca Nevada

Not only is the Winner's Hotel and Casino the largest of Winnemucca's casinos and hotels the rates are quite reasonable. Checking for a room in June of 2010 with a king size bed comes at a price of $79.00 per night. The hotel rooms are comfortable and decorated quite simply, including a coffeemaker, Mini bar, cable television and a data port.

Winner's Hotel and Casino has two dining areas on site for the visitor, Grandma's House and Pete's Coffee Shop. Grandma's House however is only open for holidays and special occasions so if your party is planning to visit Winnemucca and stay at Winner's Hotel and Casino then eating is going to bed at Pete's Coffee Shop or one of the close local restaurants. Pete's Coffee Shop does have a complete menu serving Breakfast, lunch and dinner with prices being fairly reasonable. Rib Eye Steak $10.95; Taco Tuesday at $6.99; all you can eat Spaghetti Wednesday for just $5.99.

Model T Resort Casino and Hotel
11300 West Winnemucca Blvd
Winnemucca Nevada

The Model T Resort has 75 rooms for guests, each room is clean and provides all that a visitor may need. The Model T Resort boasts that their 206 slots and video poker machines available 24 hours a day for play. On the grounds is the Model T Coffee Shop for eating and drinks. Serving breakfast, lunch and dinner throughout the day with reasonable prices on their menu. Meals such as Chicken Fried Steak for just $7.50, we can agree with the taste of the Model T Coffee Shop food it is quite good and cooked to the customer's wishes.

Sundance Casino
33 West Winnemucca Blvd
Winnemucca Nevada

775-623-3336

This small quaint casino does not provide overnight accommodations but does have all of the gaming tables and machines for the enjoyment of visitors.

Lucky J's Casino
1880 West Winnemucca Blvd
Winnemucca Nevada

775-623-5030

Lucky J's Casino is again not a hotel and does not afford the visitor a place to lay their head for the night. However, they do have equal amounts of playing tables and machines to keep visitors interested in staying for several hours of play.

If boredom takes over and the casinos are no longer of interest then an outing to the Humboldt Museum may be just the ticket. Located at the corner of Jungo Road and Maple Avenue, the Humboldt Museum is open from 9;00 am to 4:00 pm on weekdays. This museum sits along the trail where literally thousands of wagon trains forded the Humboldt River on their way to the promise land of California. Visiting this museum brings history of this area alive; see the items made by the American Indians of the area, remains from the Ice Age, vintage automobiles and other keepsakes from Winnemucca's "Art Nouveau" period. With more to see and learn at the Humboldt Museum it is a must for any visitor when in Winnemmuca Nevada.

Slept in, went to lunch, watched Porgy and Bess (one movie that could be A LOT shorter!), played PS2 and logic stuff on computer, and am STILL tired! Arggg!
