Want Healthy Skin? Don't "Miss the Boat" Banana Boat Products

Cathy Rose

Do you want a great tan this summer? Do you want people to think that you live on the beach and are a world-class surfer? Look no farther than your local drugstore. Does your skin burn to a crisp while you're walking the dog...and, it's a cloudy day in April? Don't worry. There's help for you at your favorite department store. Head on over to the skincare aisle and purchase either Banana Boat sunblocks or tanning lotions. There's a product for every skin type, age group and activity.

For most of my life, my facial skincare regime consisted of a daily cleanser, a moisturizer and an occasional sunscreen. Then, not too long ago, I noticed that my skin was getting red and blotchy even on cloudy days. I also started getting some brown spots on my face. I looked like a Dalmatian with a skin disorder! So, I sought professional help. I went to a dermatologist.

The ABC's of the sun's ultraviolet rays

She enlightened me about the sun's effects on the skin. Ultraviolet radiation from the sun can be classified into three categories.
UVA-These rays deeply penetrate the skin and are responsible for premature aging.
UVB-Accounts for sunburns
UVC-Absorbed by the earth's atmosphere

Of course, overexposure to the sun for many years can lead to skin cancer. A family history of this may put you at a higher risk.

The prognosis

She recommended a sunblock with a Sun Protection Factor (SPF) of 30. Also she reminded me to wear a hat or visor especially on sunny days. As I left her office, I remembered why I seldom wore sunscreen. It had always been too thick and did not absorb well. On top of that, it would not stay on for long. Maybe there are better products on the market now.

"Everything under the sun"

As I stood in the cosmetics section, I scanned the variety of lotions and sprays. Which one would be the best and still be reasonably priced? Then I saw something familiar-Banana Boat. Their line covered "everything under the sun".

There was skincare for kids and babies, gentle enough not to irritate sensitive skin or eyes. On the next shelf were sprays and lotions for the sports enthusiasts. They were water and sweat resistant-great for playing volleyball or swimming. The SPF for sunblock lotions ranged from 15 to 50. There were indoor and outdoor tanning lotions. Lip balms with Aloe Vera and Vitamin E would prevent sun and wind chapped lips. And, if you forgot to apply lotion before heading outside, there was Aloe After Sun lotion, made to soothe minor burns and skin irritations.

Love at first sight

Banana Boat Ultra Sunblock-- UVA and UVB lotion with a SPF of 30, absorbs quickly, waterproof, with Aloe Vera and Vitamin E....and reasonably priced!! It was everything I was looking for, everything I had dreamt about! I made my purchase and went home. Tomorrow I would be going on a 10 mile bike ride. "Let's see if this is everything it claims to be."

Happy together

Banana Boat did not let me down. The lotion absorbed quickly and it stayed on during my ride. My skin felt smooth...smoother than it had with more expensive moisturizing lotions. It was also fragrance free, which meant that there was nothing added to irritate my skin.

I am completely satisfied with this product and have been using it daily. My skin is no longer blotchy or sunburned.

So, if you want healthy looking skin, don't "miss the boat"...the Banana Boat.
