Want to Lighten Your Hair at Home? Does Sun-In Work?

Laura Hickey
Sometimes to spruce up our look a change in hair color might just be the lift we need. But with so many hair color products out on the market today, what's a good product? Some have ammonia while others don't contain alcohol. One product for instance lightens your hair but isn't considered to be hair dye. The question is, does it damage the hair any less or more than regular hair color?

Sun-In comes in a 4.7 fl oz bottle and comes in either original or with lemon juice. The product contains no alcohol and has extracts such as aloe, marigold, chamomile and flax seed. The item is recommended for medium brown to blonde hair types. The product uses the sun's heat to activate the look of lighter hair.

If you want to lighten up your hair faster, you can use the hair dryer. Using a flat iron may help the product work faster but may also dry out your hair as well. The instructions are 3 easy steps. You simply spray the product on damp hair and comb thoroughly to ensure it's evenly distributed. If you want only hair highlights spray on certain strips of hair. Then either go out and relax in the sun (granted weather permitting) or use a hair dryer. The bottle and also official website claim to show un re-touched photographs of 3 different hair colors before and after 2 days in the sun using the product.

This product does lighten up your hair for hair colors medium brown to blonde. But the smell isn't very pleasant. The same experience along with many hair color products leave a chemical hair after the hair is dry. Even after a day the product has been applied, it still has an undesirable scent.

Good aspects is the product doesn't contain alcohol and does lighten the hair. But I wouldn't suggest purchasing this item for a full head hair lightening as a hair color would more than likely have better results. The item is inexpensive at costing around $3.50 a bottle but could be more or less depending on where the item is being purchased. As far as for hair damage, did not see any damage as a result of using this product. To see online the un touched photographs of hair, log on to: http://sun-in.com/

When using this product you may want to pick up a bottle of Alberto VO5 Daily Weightless Leave-In Conditioner. This spray comes in a 10 fl oz white and red bottle for around $2.75 depending on where you shop. It helps remove tangles and help release shine in your hair. It's also a good product to use to protect hair from heat styling and brushing. The product also contains a UV filter to help protect color from fading. The scent is light and refreshing. When using curling irons or flat irons, this product left my hair feeling soft and had good shine. To check out this and other restoring hair products from VO5, click onto : http://www.vo5.com/
