While almost everything worth talking about from Italy is mid-engined, the 8C is front mounted. The V8 produces 450 horsepower and 346.7 torques. Not the most powerful, and neither the fastest coming from the land where speed is universally accepted, and not very well contained. So, what's the point of the 8C Competizione?
I think it's all about the flash, the glamor, and the beauty of the car. It's all about sitting at home, or in this case, a mansion, looking out the window at your very own Alfa Romeo 8C. It's all about going to a party and being the center of attention. It's all about having kids and teenagers, along with their moms and dads, and their grandparents surrounding the car leaving deposits of drool all over it. So, if the way I see it is right, owning an the 8C is no easy business.
So what about the competition? I can see the 8C being in competition with the Ferrari California, and the Maserati Gran Tourismo. When comparing it to the California, it's really a no brainer. The Ferrari isn't as beautiful as the 8C. In fact, it's one of the worst looking cars Ferrari has come up with since the F50! There is, however, some serious competition between Alfa Romeo and Maserati. They're both beautiful, both glamorous, and both extremely elegant. They're similar in the performance game as well.
So how does the 8C stack up against the Maserati Gran Tourismo? Well, it's any body's choice really. I can't choose a favorite because I love both just as much. The thing that makes it very hard for me is they both combine luxury and sport like nothing else! Mercedes just looks so cheap when you look at any of the two. However, there's a big difference between the Maserati and the 8C Competizione. Yep, you guessed it, it's the price. You can actually own a Gran Tourismo without selling your house, while chances are you'll have either the house or the Alfa Romeo. That or you're filthy rich and you need to donate more to charity.
So, you can go after Maserati Gran Tourismo and a house, or you can buy the 8C and live in a cardboard box. That is of course with the exception of rich guys who bathe in gold, and eat silver for breakfast - yes it's the oil giants. If you want to get noticed everywhere, you can go for the cheaper version of a very hot Italian car, and still have people bowing down to you as you drive by. But if you want to make people drop dead on their tracks, you've gotta get the 8C.
