There are four races to chose from, night elves, undead, orcs, and human each with a unique ability as well. Orcs have something called an orc burrow which is used for food and can be used as a defense mechanism. Humans have the ability to have more than one worker/peasant building a building. Night elves which are my favorite race has moon wells which are also used for food and are used in regenerating heath in your hero and your army. The undead have something called a ziggurat this once again is used for both a defense mechanism and for food. Each race has a choice of four heroes as well.
The most addicting thing there is on this game is the wide variety of custom games. One of the most fun games to play is tower defense games. The object of these games is to build towers to kill enemies that run through a maze. You need to prevent these enemies from "leeking" or else you will loose. "Leeking" is when you do not kill the enemy and it gets its destination.
When the enemy reaches that destination the players that are trying to defend that destination will loose a life. When all lives are lost the game is over and the players lose. You can play these games either solo or as team with up to eight players.
One of my favorite series of custom games to play is footman wars or otherwise known as "Footies". In this game you control a hero and many smaller units which are used to take over other peoples bases. You can choose from four races in this game and you are able to upgrade your town hall. When you do this your footman, which are the people that are made from the town hall automatically, upgrade. When you do this you get different footman with more heath and they do more damage.
This game is great. While some people play it for the single player. Most play it for the inline custom games. This review pertains mostly to these types of games. These games are what make Warcraft III so outstanding! I would give this game a 10 out of 10.
