Warehouse Working at Age 49

Not that I do not like my job, it is just not what I expected to be doing at age 49.
Warehouse work, not (I do not think) normal warehouse work. It is production almost, numbers count.

Oh, where is this work? Big Name Distribution center- NO air conditioning, NO heat. It gets very hot in the summer months, which does not bother me as much as the no heat. I cannot stand to be cold. I do not even go outside when it is cold. Now I have to work in it. What am I doing???

Had to have a job somewhere. This one contacted me after hunting hours everyday, going to Temp services (what a joke). So after a few of interviews with some unenthusiastic results from me. I took this one, had to pay the bills somehow. 4pm-4:30am Saturday-Monday.

I get Tuesday through Friday off. I like that, Tuesday I am good for nothing but after I snooze most of the day I still have Tuesday off. I am 49 and need my beauty sleep. I do not sleep but 3 hours after I get home at 5ish AM on Saturday and Sunday.

It was a normal warehouse then they had this grand idea about getting the stores to have a no minimum buy. Help them and help vendors sell their stuff, blah, blah, blah.
It is hard work everyday I am there. I do not mind the hard work, it is the ones that do not work that while I sweat, drive me insane.

I am a hard worker, I do not like slackers, so I refuse to be one. It is my integrity here. Is it my age that I have this responsibiity imposed on me?
I have to work harder when I have to work with one that does not want to work, I do let them know I expect them to work and I try my best to get them motivated to work with me. Some people just do not care, but some people have pitched in when we have worked together.
My biggest problem is WHY? Why am I the one to get them to work or not to work? Is that what my bosses supposed to do?

There are people there that absolutely do nothing! One girl should have been fired the first weekend she got there or better why she was hired ???????
She has been sent to get drug tested 2-3 times. Then there are the just flat out lazy. You have to wonder if their mother were there would she like what she saw of them.

I waiting on a much bigger opp. somewhere there is air conditioning and heat and comfortable chair. I like most of the people that are working. We are a family on 4th shift to the most part. I just wish the things that need change are things that they do not. I know it is a warehouse, and business does not constitute written processes and procedures like an air-conditioned shiny shoes office atmosphere, but there is change that could be made in technique and consistency in doing things, in hiring and firing, in promoting and reviews. I wish they would just ask me.
