"The Rite"
Release Date: January 28th
"The Rite" is currently at theaters. The ads say this is Anthony Hopkins best role since "Hannibal Lecter" but that could mean his best role since that horrible Hannibal Lechter prequel. Also, can you name any performance by Anthony Hopkins since Hannibal? Didn't think so.
"Unknown"
Release Date: February 18th
"Unknown" is another Liam Neeson movie that looks like another "Taken". "Taken" was actually a surprise hit and was even a decent movie but "Unknown" has such a generic title that most movie goers will pass on by without even noticing it.
"Hall Pass"
Release Date: February 25th
"Hall Pass" is a comedy about two husbands that are given a hall pass to sleep with whoever they want. It seems from the trailer that the guys then have a hard time landing the ladies. This is not my cup of tea but comedies are popular with movie goers in the early months of the year.
"Red Riding Hood"
Release Date: March 11th
"Red Riding Hood" is a fantasy take on the classic fairy tale. "Red Riding Hood" stars Amanda Seyfried and Gary Oldman, two great choices for this sort of movie. If done properly this could be one of Warner Brothers better movies of the year, but I don't expect it to make a lot of money.
"Sucker Punch"
Release Date: March 25th
"Sucker Punch" is the latest from the creative mind of Zach Snyder. "Sucker Punch" might be the most anticipated Warner Brothers movie of the year to all my geek friends but will it appeal to the other movie goers?
"Born to be Wild"
Release Date: April 8th
"Born to be Wild" is a 3D documentary being released at IMAX theaters in April. Born to be Wild documents the people that adopt and raise orphaned orangutans and elephants.
"The Hangover Part II"
Release Date: May 26th
The trend in Hollywood is usually to make a sequel that pales in comparison to the original it actually draws a bigger box office than the first. Don't be surprised if "The Hangover Part II" exceeds the first movie's box office.
"Something Borrowed"
Release Date: June 10th
"Something Borrowed" is an apt name for this film as in, we borrowed this storyline from every other dull romantic comedy. The story goes like this. Girl is 30 and lonely, hooks up with dude, dude happens to be her best friend's fiancee. She confides in her best male friend who is actually in love with her. After "How Do You Know" got an abysmal box office and "The Dilemma" and "No Strings Attached" did just alright I think it's clear that even the romantic comedy fans are tired of romantic comedies.
"Green Lantern"
Release Date: June 17th
It will be interesting to see how "Green Lantern" fares at the box office. Green Lantern isn't on the same popularity level as Spider-man/Batman but he's probably on the same level as Iron Man, which made a lot of money at the box office.
"Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows - Part 2"
Release Date: July 15th
With all the talk about Harry Potter last year some might guess it was the highest grossing Harry Potter so far. That is not the case. Part 1 of "Deathly Hallows" is only fourth among the Harry Potter films in box office. Will Part 2 gross the same or will the final Harry Potter gross more than all the rest?
"Crazy Stupid Love"
Release Date: July 29th
"Crazy Stupid Love" is a comedy from Warner Brothers that might be a sleeper quality-wise. The film is about Cal (Steve Carell), a man that is divorced by his wife (Julianne Moore) and now in an attempt to find love he gets a popular 30-something (Ryan Gosling) to be his wingman. Moore was recently named a nominee for the Academy Awards and Gosling was snubbed in many viewers' opinion. That is a pretty remarkable cast for a film that would normally be filled with the usual boring comedy actors.
"Horrible Bosses"
Release Date: July 29th
"Horrible Bosses" is a comedy about three friends that all hate their bosses. They come up with a plan to permanently get rid of all of their bosses. My guess is something then goes wrong and hilarity sues. (No I did not mean hilarity ensues. Hilarity sues Warner Brothers for false advertising for calling this "comedy".)
Final Destination 5
Release Date: August 28th
This is the final installment of the "Final Destination" series. Actually I don't know if it is the final installment. I am just saying that because that is what we've been told for at least the last three "Final Destination" films.
"The Apparition"
Release Date: September 9th
"The Apparition" is a horror movie starring Ashley Greene. That's probably all you need to know to decide whether you'll like it or not. "The Apparition" will probably make the same box office as the average horror flick.
"Dolphin Tale"
Release Date: October 7th
"Dolphin Tale" is a family movie about a dolphin and the people that are trying to save its life. "Dolphin Tale" stars Morgan Freeman, Ashley Judd and Harry Connick Jr.
"Contagion"
Release Date: October 21st
"Contagion" is Steven Soderbergh's next flick about an airborne virus that is killing everyone and the people that are trying to stop it. "Contagion" sounds like a pretty boring plot but has an intriguing cast of Matt Damon, Marion Cotillard, Laurence Fishburne, Jude Law, Gwyneth Paltrow and Kate Winslet.
"Happy Feet 2"
Release Date: November 18th
Everyone that watched the first "Happy Feet" will probably watch the second. That means "Happy Feet 2" will be one of Warner Brothers' biggest hits of 2011.
"Sherlock Holmes II"
Release Date: December 16th
The end of the year Warner Brothers figures to make a lot of money. Between "Happy Feet 2" and "Sherlock Holmes II" the theaters should be jam packed for the Warner Brothers films.
"Journey 2: The Mysterious Island"
Release Date: TBA
The sequel to the 2008 film is another interesting film. The cast of Dwayne Johnson, Michael Caine, Josh Hutcherson, Vanessa Hudgens, Luis Guzman and Kristen Davis is more appealing than the original. If Warner Brothers chooses the right release date then it could be a big hit.
