Warnings from a Halloween Poem

Phylis

Into the mouth of the serpent she drove,

Leaving city lights behind,

Consumed by the darkness of the Halloween night

Down the dark, narrow road she did wind.

Hisssss went the tires on wet pavement

Shewwww was the wind through the trees,

And the ghostly shadows danced all around,

Whispering, "Come on out and join me."

Entranced, though, she knew she was swallowed,

By a monster much larger than she,

Eerie, black darkness consumed her,

Taking control of her sweet reverie.

She stopped the car in the roadway,

Hypnotically, she opened the door,

And danced with the ghosts on the highway,

Entranced more than ever before.

When the light overtook the monster,

With the shadows she disappeared,

An empty car found on the highway,

Exactly where it had been steered.

She had entered the mouth of the serpent,

And was swallowed up by the night,

Consumed by the evil of darkness,

Lost from the protection of light,

Let this be a lesson to you,

Stay home on Halloween,

Or the ghosts and goblins may get you,

And you will never again be seen.

I was trying to submit this for the Halloween poem content, but I somehow submitted it twice. Sorry about that.
