A Short List of Top Bands on This Year's Warped Tour

Allen Wiggs
Van's Warped Tour is celebrating its 15th year of bringing punk rock music nationwide with a great lineup for fans. After last year's disapointing band list, this year looks to make up for the folly. Here is a short list of bands on the tour that will excite punk fans, new and old.

Anti-Flag: These east coast government minded punks will be bringing their fast paced music along side their call for a better world. Some may consider a punk band interested in politics as a bit passe but Anti-Flag have been doing this for years and their music is great regardless of political leaning. Song to listen for: Die For Your Government

Bad Religion: This is one of two bands on this year's tour that need no introduction. You either know them or have at least heard their big hits like "21st Century Digital Boy" and "Infected" on the radio. They put on a great show, my first big Warped memory was the first year guitarist, Brett Gurewitz returned to the band in 2001. Song to listen for: Sorrow

Big D and the Kids Table: A third generation ska band, Big D has finally started making a name for themselves. Last year was the first time they went on a nationwide headlining tour and they got there through pure energy and the power of ska. If you ever listened to ska, have no clue what it is, or are just looking for a band to watch while waiting for someone else, Big D is well worth your time. Expect skanking to abound at Warped this year thanks to Big D and friends of the band, Less Than Jake. Song to listen for: Noise Complaint

Flogging Molly: Irish punk band Flogging Molly take folk music infuses it with punk and creates some of the most dancable music you will hear this summer. Always energetic and downing Guiness, they will generate huge dancing sections during their set alongside the mosh pits. Singer Dave King will keep the crowd entertained in between songs and then belt out great lyrics. Song to listen for: Devil's Dance Floor

Gallows: The hardcore band from England is making a return to Warped Tour. Two years ago lead singer Christopher Frank Carter spent most of the set on the concrete pavement with the fans bellowing out his lyrics stopping only to leap into a circle pit as the band played the breakdown for Black Flag's "Nervous Breakdown". Do you really need to know anymore? Song to listen for: In the Belly of a Shark

Less Than Jake: Ska band favorites return to Warp to bring the skanking back to the summer. I support of their newest album GNV FLA, Less Than Jake will be showing that trombones and trumpests really do rock like your band teacher claimed. Song to listen for: History of a Boring Town

NOFX: If you have been to a Warped Tour, Fat Mike of NOFX has been there. Either with NOFX or the punk cover band, Me First and the Gimme Gimmes. For any punk fan, this band needs no introduction. If for some odd reason you haven't heard of these guys, do yourself a favor and listen to them already, though really you have no business going to Warped without knowing abou them. Song to listen for: Bob
