Was Casey Anthony a Junkie?

Casey Anthony's Behavior During Her Check Run was Similar to an Addict's

Thom MacIntyre
Looking at all the available evidence and reading all the depositions available to the public, I feel Casey Antony did NOT have a hard drug problem, and never did. However, her behavior sure mimicked an addict's behavior right before a 'bottom' was hit. After we cover that, let's look at her living victims, Amy and Ricardo. They were unfairly painted as users by the Anthony camp. Anyone familiar with recovery can see this is a ludicrous supposition. Finally, the comment section is going to be troll free. I write about staying off of drugs and staying out of trouble. I am unabashedly pro-Caylee, so that is that. With the amount of readily and easily secured free blogs, I am not going to provide the contrarian trouble-makers free space.

Since behavior while on drugs is as unique as the person(s) involved, it will be easier to talk about behavior in withdrawal. Symptoms are all very similar, generally only varying in the intensity between folks. One common thing is that the person will try to end it by any means possible, regardless of their previous set of morals, skills, or upbringing. Withdrawal, better known in druggie circles as 'dopesick' has to be the primary motivator in so many crimes. There are probably as many urban legends about dope sickness as there are about heroin itself. My very first recovery article here at AC was talking someone through dopesick,

The run Casey did with Amy's checkbook shows some classic "get off of sick at any cost" behavior. Getting a hold of the money, and then the dope connection is all that matters to the still suffering addict. The bank has a camera? SO what, I will explain it away tomorrow. I have to make the hot check out to me? That is ok. I will straighten it out and lie my way through it tomorrow. So THAT part of the hot check run sure looks familiar with Casey's actions. It is WHAT she does with both the money and the things she buys that shows dope is not on her radar at all. Ripping off grandma to pay the phone bill was to maintain the working mom façade with her current set of buddies. The food and beer bought with Amy's loot was her lavishing gifts on her amour du jour. She had to maintain that front of a super-duper job listed on her profile. Any real junkie would have used the cash to get dope and any credit cards to get easy to sell stuff. When you take all of that together, it is crystal clear Ms. Anthony did not have a drug addiction. Not to use that as any sort of excuse in the first place. As the police who stop by here can tell you, most junkies started out like anybody else. Get them locked up and away from their drug of choice for 72 hours and most will co-operate.

Now, there were two people who were very good to Casey. Their kindness was repaid by not only being lied to, stolen from, and placed in the spotlight. They were also dragged through the mud in an attempt to draw attention away from the last person seen with a live Caylee. I do not want to even repeat the lies. Go read the state deposition of Lee Anthony on the 30th pf July, 2009. Those kids were the exact opposites of those who fall under the wretched spell of heroin. Once a full blown addicts, the getting, using, and getting more is all that matters. Those poor kids victimized by the Anthony machine held multiple jobs and were so squared away that they could deal with a $400 theft immediately before a vacation and STILL have money in the bank to pay bills when returning home from said vacation. They were the exact opposite of Casey as she was in real life. Heck, they were even better than the pretend Casey her family created for media consumption. I truly hope some eager lawyers read the deposition previously mentioned. Having been on the wrong side of the 12 steps, most folks either 'into' heroin or in recovery howled at the trash talked by George and Cindy's other kid. It occurred to us that folks who never saw that side of life might not know how laughable that slanderous (from a non-lawyer view) supposition is. Hopefully this short primer has done that. If you fear someone you love may have a drug problem, please feel free to read the other articles in the series.

  • Narcissistic behavior can mimic drug addiction but the two are separate problems.
  • Casey's only set of behavior that was addict-like was her final check writing spree.
  • The only way to deal with a problem is to admit there is one.
People with full blown "Narcissistic Personality Disorder" rarely seek treatment. On the other hand, once an addict enters treatment, honest healing can begin.

    Hey Thom,

Not all drug addicts act the same. And she could've purchased those items to resell, so one doesnt know. I think it was more the drink like papa jojo... I think it was more desperation on her end to get the hell out of the Anthony home. What happened after that whether she left Caylee home or not is to be seen at trial.

Thanks for the article Thom. I think what makes the murder and thoughtless disposal of Caylee Marie even sadder is that it was committed by someone who was not under the influence of anything other then her own selfish desire to rid herself of her child. I am a big Amy H fan and wish her the very best as she moves on with her life.

You were spot on describing the good young people that Amy and Ricardo (and the rest) are. I was appalled from the get go that the Anthony Family tried to make them out to be drug addicts in a sinister plot to kidnap Caylee and subsequently kill her. In fact there are some blog owners going the "drug" route to seemingly explain away Casey being the sole one responsible for murdering her daughter. These young adults are doing what all young adults do...WORK and go out and have fun and save up for a vacation. All who knew Casey have been hoodwinked by her and slandered by her family.

Glad I found your site. Saw it at Humble Opinion's and I am looking forward to reading some more.

    Thanks, hope & northern!
One thing I have notice about alcoholic young ladies is that they can always get their drinks for free I really do not know too much about her drinking besides it was a pretty high volume. Anyhow, let the other BC folks know they are super free to chit chat here. I will actively block/delete trolls. J4C!

Great article, I agree with your take of casey's so called situation as it were. You are right in the habits of a drug addict...there is no money for trips, car shopping (amy) much less in the bank. But I believe that casey was more or less a week-end warrior...that is if the high were free or low cost. I would assume she was more into the alcohol and by the pictures of her past had no drinking sense not so ever, as she like a child with too much candy, didn't have the sense to know when to cap it and more often ended up passing out or puking up, either which brought her the negative attention, she appeared to feed on most of her life. Since the job wasn't real, nor the nanny, nor the love of the flavor of the week,I also would state, there was no real addiction in her world. Now I do however believe that she would have been a perfect candicate to fall into drugs had someone come along and provided her with the free lifestyle....well would have been free for awhile, then would have

Hi Thom..great artical and I agree kc didn't have a drug problem . She just mearly did whatever her surrounding friends at the moment did to blend in and be part of the gang. Also, Amy and Tony's were good kids..enjoying the ups and downs of youth. Both had their futures in mind and they will make great witnesses at the trial!
