What makes Stupak look really guilty in this matter is the very fishy timing of his sudden about-face, especially when you consider the recent timeline of his public statements on his stand on abortion language in the bill. As late as this past Friday, the 19th, Stupak was a firm "no," even going and speaking to FNC's Greta Van Susteren in reiterating his unreliably pro-life bloc of Democrats' opposition to Obamacare. Then, though, came the press release later in the day, but also on Friday about how his northern Michigan district would get a cool $726 409 for airport improvements.
Now, fast forward to Saturday when Stupak wasn't that vocal anymore-as he had consistently been in the days before his bribe, er, I mean, "grant" for his district-on how he'd vote. Finally, that brings us to Sunday when he revealed how he'd sell his soul for a mere, useless piece of paper, an "executive order," strengthening limits on abortion. As the National Right to Life Committee reasoned so very convincingly, the order doesn't overturn any of the pro-abortion language in the bill, and courts will enforce a bill over an executive order.
Stupak-after clearly selling out and, what's worse, selling out on the cheap for a measly six figure-number!-then confirmed how low class he was by going on to the House floor and unjustly lecturing the whole GOP that it was in fact the Democrats (yes, the Democrats!!) who apparently fought for the principal of no public funding for abortions! This, despite the shameful fact that Stupak and his good-for-nothing bloc of "pro-life" Democrats are now voting for an Obamacare bill that still contains pro-abortion provisions which the courts will uphold over that worthless piece of paper called Obama's "executive order!"
The most interesting part of Stupak's decision to expose himself as a turncoat and prove that all "pro-life" Democrats are really anything but-as they regularly support abortion despite claims of being "Catholic" or "socially conservative" or what have you-is the fallout from his betrayal.
First, there is the brewing fallout in his chances for political survival come November. That is to say, at the time of this writing, they look increasingly threatened. Stupak's GOP opponent in November-Dr. Dan Benishek-is seeing a noticeable uptick in palpable support from Michigan constituents who are rightly dissatisfied with Stupak's anti-life sellout and failure to protect the life of the unborn through his support of Obamacare. Benishek's Facebook page was, late Sunday, growing at a pace of 20 new members every half-minute to minute, with many appeals to have him set up a donation site for his campaign also incoming.
Secondly, Stupak is being ostracized by the pro-life Susan B. Anthony List, which had earlier-before Stupak's colors-showing treachery-planned to honor him this upcoming Wednesday at their Campaign for Life Gala for ideally keeping pro-abortion funding out of the health care bill.
Punitive consequences like the aforementioned may claim more Democrat victims as a rightly angry and discontent, American electorate begins to realize just how badly they've been disrespected and cheated-to say the least-by a fanatical Democrat Party that doesn't give a damn about its constituents, the Constitution, or America herself. We can only hope that come November, Republicans take back both houses of Congress in the first step to repealing this Obamacare nightmare.
