Was Your Favorite Television Show Cancelled Too Soon?

Jennifer Foote
Over the past few years, we have seen an increase in the number of television shows that are being pulled from the air, many right in the middle of the season. If you are like me and many other television viewers, this may have upset you in more ways than one. There is nothing worse that being left hanging; wondering what would have or could have happened next.

While we all have our own favorite television shows that we try and tune into each night of the week, there are a number of shows that were popular and were still pulled from the air. While the ratings may not have been great, many of these shows had a passionate fan following. Just a few of those shows are briefly outlined below.

ABC's In Justice

In Justice aired on ABC in 2006. The show focused on the "National Justice Project." Instead of being like most crime and drama shows today, In Justice didn't really focus on catching the criminals, but rather releasing those who were wrongly convicted. In Justice had a great cast, right down to the guest stars. Each character and episode was strong enough where it could leave you in tears. Unfortunately, In Justice aired on Friday nights, which has been known to bring many popular television shows down to their knees.

With In Justice, it just literally seemed like it dropped off the face of the earth and never returned.

ABC's Invasion

Invasion aired on ABC from 2005 to 2006. Invasion focused on the aftermath of a hurricane, which included the existence of supernatural life. Although Invasion seemed a little bit far fetched not long into the season, it was something that drew in a passionate fan base. After all, at the time there wasn't much on network television like Invasion.

Invasion aired on ABC on Wednesdays, right after the popular hit Lost. Unfortunately, ABC toyed around with the schedule and new episodes of Lost and Invasion didn't always air at the same time. This may have attributed to the show's downfall. While ABC did allow the first season of Invasion to finish airing, it left viewers with more questions than answers.

Fox's Vanished

Vanished aired on Fox in 2006. Vanished focused on the disappearance of a Georgia Senator's wife, but it soon became clear that wasn't all that the show was about. Numerous other conspiracies were developed and they were interesting ones. Unfortunately, Fox also played around with the schedule of Vanished. It originally started airing on Monday nights and then it was moved to Fridays and many of us know how well Friday night television works.

The good news associated with the cancellation of Vanished was that Fox allowed the remaining episodes to air online. However, as with Invasion, viewers were left with many unanswered questions.

ABC's The Nine

The Nine aired on ABC in 2006. The Nine focused on the nine characters who made it out of a back robbery alive. What was interesting about The Nine is that they didn't reveal everything that happened during the bank robbery at once; what happened was revealed little by little in each episode, as flashbacks.

Similar to Invasion, The Nine followed Lost; however, The Nine was unable to retain many of the same viewers as Lost. This lead to a significant decline in ratings and The Nine was pulled from the air. Unfortunately, as of today, the remaining of episodes of The Nine have yet to air, either on the air or online.

NBC's The Black Donnelly's

The Black Donnelly's aired on NBC in 2007. The Black Donnelly's focused on four brothers from an Irish family. Faced with numerous difficulties including crime, The Black Donnelly's focused on family. Due to low ratings, The Black Donnelly's was pulled from NBC's schedule. However, they did decide to air the remaining episodes online. In fact, at the current moment, those episodes are still airing.

The above mentioned television shows are just a few of the many that were cancelled long before they should have ended, especially according to the fans. Was one of your favorite cancelled shows on the list?

I never heard of any of these except for the Black Donnellys.......I was disappointed that it was cancelled and I did finish watching the rest of the episodes online. One show I was junkie you know that show where the world stops for an hour was What About Brian. I thought that show gave you so many different real life scenarios and not long after the BD hit the same time slot time that WAB did it was only a matter of time. I was alternating watching one online one week and the other on tv and then vice versa the following week. NOW THEY ARE BOTH FREAKIN' GONE!!!!

Great article Jennifer. It is very frustrating when you get into a show and then it goes off the air...:(

Man, why did the Black Donnely's stop? I tried to watch online, but it was not the same!

I found Invasion fascinating and was very disappointed when it got cancelled.

I feel the same way. After Invasion got cancelled, which was on ABC, I swore I wasn't going to watch anymore shows on ABC, but I got sucked in with The Nine and, of course, that was cancelled too! Books and movies sound good!

I loved Vanished and hated to see it end. I was also disappointed with the way things ended for Jericho. I'm getting to the point that I honestly think I'm just going to stick with books and movies. Every time I find a show I really like, it gets cancelled.

I have to admit I haven't seen any of these shows although they all sound very interesting and I can't imagine why they didn't have better ratings. Sure I didn't see them but I don't start TV series usually, because I already have some favorites and I don't watch TV a whole lot. Great article.
