Wash Your Hair in Rainwater!

Erin Goff
I remember hearing years ago that the purer water is, the cleaner the items you wash them in will be. I have been washing my face with rain water for years, as I don't like the impurities that is in treated water. The other day it was raining fairly hard and I decided that I would wash my hair in the rain.

My hair is fairly long, reaching the middle of my back, and it is thick. Normally I wash my hair every other day, more often than that and my scalp will dry out leaving my hair looking frizzy. I use a good bit of shampoo as it doesn't seem to lather very well at all. I have to use a conditioner on my hair or it feels like straw, and looks stringy.

When it started raining I put bowls out like normal to collect the water for washing my face. I was planning to wash my hair that day when I took a shower and decided to try something different. I put on my bathing suit grabbed the shampoo and went outside. I used only about a quarter size worth of shampoo, and it lathered better then when I use more in the shower. Because of all the lather it took longer to rinse out. I didn't condition my hair at all.

I came in the house and put a towel on my hair as I normally do, dried off, got dressed, and by this time my hair was dryer than it would normally be. I always let my hair air dry as I don't like the effect of heat on my hair. I used a large comb to comb through it while it was wet and noticed that it wasn't stringy like it would be in the shower if I don't condition it.

After my hair fully dried, I noticed how soft it was. When I ran my brush through my hair I didn't have as much hair come out in the brush. It has now been three days and my hair is still as soft and looks as nicely as it did the day I washed it in the rain.

I have lived in both the city and in the country. I have seen the effects of both city water and well water on my hair and skin. I fully believe that rain water is the best to use on both. I don't like the chemicals they use in treated water, and with well water there are a lot of minerals that collect in the water. I only drink one type of bottled water because I know for sure that it comes directly from a spring and doesn't have any of the impurities that even filtered water can have.

I have considered getting a water purifier for the household water. I have not yet decided if the expense will be justified by the benefit. I have not seen enough evidence one way or the other as of yet. My ex sister in law had purchased one of these systems and the water felt slimy to me for some reason. I don't know what effect it will have on well water.

I would highly suggest anyone try washing their hair in the rain at least once in their lives. While it may be cold, the effects are long lasting, and provides a great benefit. It is also a good way to wash all the impurities that collect in your hair from everyday products. My hair has never felt this good before. Now I am hoping for more rain!

Interesting article Erin. It does the heart good to know that rain water isn't overly polluted.
