Wash Your Hands, Please

Andrew Smith
There seems to be a big problem today with people not washing their hands after using the restroom or after being in an environment where it should be done. It's important to keep your hands clean not only for your sickness and disease prevention, but also for those around you. If you don't wash your hands, then you could make others around you sick, even when they are making the proper precautions to guard themselves from being sick. Washing your hands by no means is a way of preventing all sicknesses and diseases from being transferred, but it is better than doing nothing to guard against it.

I understand that we are all forgetful at one time or another, but that does not mean we can't be better about doing things the right way. If you are one of those people that constantly have to be reminded to wash their hands, then don't worry. There is an easy way to prevent this from happening again and it is simply to come up with a routine. Each time you go into the bathroom, no matter what it is for, wash your hands. This will help to enforce the idea that you need to wash your hands before you can exit the bathroom. It will then hopefully get to the point that you can't leave the bathroom without washing your hands because it bothers you so much.

Now, as we all know we don't just need to wash our hands after each time we use the restroom, but especially before we cook something. The last thing that anyone wants is to have a sickness transformed into the food they are cooking for all to enjoy. It's also important to remember that when working with raw food, you should also wash your hands again after its preparation to guard against sickness or illness from bacteria in the uncooked food. The other reason for this is that you don't want to contaminate the freshly made food with bacteria that could be harmful from your hands.

Even though both of these suggestions are a great way in preventing the spread of sicknesses and illnesses, we can all understand that washing your hands every second throughout the day is just not feasible. Since this is a problem you would think that someone would have come up with a solution for this and you would be right. The solution to this age old problem of course is hand sanitizer. Yes that's right good old hand sanitizer. Its relatively inexpensive and can help you guard yourself against sickness and illness and well as those around you. Just make sure that you are not allergic to anything that is in the type you buy, the last thing you need is getting sick because you were trying to prevent getting sick. That's just being counterproductive in what your trying to do and nobody wants that.
