Wash and Wear

James R. Ford

forget the rain

walking down your street of dreams

stumble on a manhole cover

trip and nearly fall into a puddle

all that you have seen and heard

becomes the very part of you

never wanting to leave

until the sun breaks over the sea

until the first birds of morning

renew their urgent calling

wake now softly

forget the rains of yesterday

the storm clouds have broken away

today's renaissance

a new chance, dancing

your thoughts of why

like a stone skipping across the ocean.
