Sometimes wallpaper is too fragile to wash, or it is made from materials that do not lend themselves to a good scrubbing. If you have wallpaper remnants, always double check if your wallpaper is washable. If you do not have remnants available, it might be best to err on the side of caution and treat your wallpaper gently. Here are some ways you can clean up your wallpaper.
One way to clean fragile wallpaper is to use a gum eraser. These soft, crumbly erasers can be found in any craft store. You will probably also be able to find them in the craft, art, school or office supply department of other stores.
A tip that might have you thinking I am a little touched involves toast, rye toast to be exact. Try sanding the dirty section of the wallpaper with a piece of dry, rye toast. As odd as it sounds, it can work wonders.
To remove fingerprints, all you need is a damp cloth and some cornstarch. Gently rub away the fingerprints with the damp cloth. Just remember not to get the cloth too wet or you could damage the wallpaper. When the area is clean, lightly coat the damp area with cornstarch to absorb and remaining moisture from the paper.
If you have a greasy spot on your fragile wallpaper, there are still ways to handle the problem. All you will need is some cornstarch and gentle cleaning fluid of choice. Just make a paste from the cornstarch and cleaning fluid and apply it to the stain. Gently rub the paste on the stain and leave it there to dry. When the paste has dried completely, gently brush it off. You might need to repeat these steps a few times, but it will get rid of the grease stain without destroying your wallpaper.
