Washington DC Dining Guide

Top 5 Dining Choices

Beth Inman
Washington Dc will be a busier city on January 20th. It is on January 20, 2009, that our country will see the inauguration of our country's first African American President. Barack Obama will officially take his place in the Oval Office.

For those of you who are fortunate enough to witness this event, you will need to know where to head for a great meal. This is where I can help. I recently spent a week in our great city, walking, site-seeing, and you guessed it...eating! Here, for you, are some of my favorites, in no particular order.

Ruth's Chris Steak House

1801 Connecticut Avenue, only 2 blocks from Dupont Circle. You will find it is just a short walk from the Washington Hilton and Towers. They offer $5 valet parking and you will also find parking a block away on Florida Avenue. You will find ample parking in the Universal South Building.

The lovely English Tudor style provides a great atmosphere for a comfortable dinner. They are serving dinner from 5-10pm on Monday - Thursday, 10:30 on Saturdays and 9:00 on Sundays. Ruth's Chris has a reputation for serving the best steak ever, and I agree. If steak is not your choice, they do have a full menu, all moderately priced. If you are heading here for dinner, I would suggest a reservation.

Madam's Organ

2461 18th Street

If you want Blues served up with dinner, head to Madam's Organ for amazing soul food and pretty good American bar food. This place was one of my favorites. This displaced southern girl thought she was home again! It does get pretty rowdy at night, though. Don't leave without trying Lennon's Steak & Cheese. Get yourself plenty of napkins!

Café Soleil

839 Seventeenth Street

Great café, with inside dining as well as sidewalk seating. Located just two blocks from the White House. Open Monday-Friday from 7am till 10pm and on the weekends from 8am till 10pm. Great food at a very reasonable prices.

Primi Piatti Ristorante

20113 I Street

Excellent Italian fare. Nice indoor dining, as well as a great sidewalk dining area. Absolute perfection in Italian fare. Wear loosely fitting clothes when eating here, it is difficult to make yourself stop eating!

Kinkheads

2000 Pennsylvania Avenue NW

Many say this is Washington's best. The food is fabulous and displayed with perfection. You will find it a real joy to eat here. We found you could sit down to a full meal for around $30-35.
