Washington DC's Pershing Park Ice Skating Rink

Outdoor Skating in a Historic Location, Another Reason Why Washington, DC is a Great Place to Live

M.G. Hardiman
At 14th and Pennsylvania Avenue, NW, in Washington D.C. a little memorial park is dedicated to none other than General John J. Pershing, Commander of the American Expeditionary Forces of World War I and the only person promoted in his own lifetime to the highest US Army rank, General of the Armies. General Pershing was a West Point graduate and true American patriot. Pershing Park contains a statue of the General along with memorial walls and benches behind which are described General Pershing's many accomplishments during his lifetime. The park includes a fountain, a pond and flower beds. During the winter months the pond is converted into an outdoor ice rink. I wonder what General Pershing would think about his memorial park sharing space with ice skaters in the winter months?

Washington, DC has its many charms, but none so much as its dedication and commitment to green space and parks, height restrictions for office buildings and residences across the District, and outdoor ice skating in the winter months. Truly, there's nothing quite like outdoor ice skating. It just feels better than skating indoors. Skating outdoors is especially magical in Washington, DC where you're surrounded by a beautiful city, historical landmarks and cultural attractions as you take a spin around the ice rink.

Washington, DC's Pershing Park is a magical place where young and old can cut quite a figure on the ice. Pershing Park Ice Rink is small, family oriented, and provides a safe environment for young or inexperienced skaters. Adults can enjoy wonderful nighttime skating in this intimate, lighted rink which is conveniently located near shopping, attractions, events and metro station stops. Take metro, look for the kiosk and away you go!
