Washington Huskies in 2010 Women's College World Series

Washington is in the 2010 Women's College World Series. Washington qualified for the 2010 Women's College World Series on Friday night by beating the Oklahoma Sooners in two softball games. The games both took place in Seattle, where Washington has been hosting the Seattle Super Regional of women's softball. On Thursday night, Oklahoma actually got the best of the No. 3 seeded Washington Huskies, winning the game 6-1 to take a 1-0 lead in the best-of-three series. That led to a Friday, May 28th double-header between Washington and Oklahoma to decide which of these two teams would be advancing to the 2010 Softball Championship next week.

Danielle Lawrie was key again to the Washington Huskies today, pitching a two-hit shut-out for Washington in the first game of the double hitter. She also struck out ten hitters on the way to a 3-0 win for UW. Last year's USA Softball Collegiate Player of the Year not only pitched a shutout in the first game, but she went out to pitch the second game as well. She was equally strong in the early going of the ball game, and it was simply amazing to see how well she was dominating these Oklahoma Sooners. She helped push the No. 3 seeded Washington Huskies back into the Women's College World Series, where they will try to win yet another softball championship for the Pac-10.

Washington joins Tennessee as the first two teams to qualify for the 2010 Women's College World Series.
