The First Round Picks
No surprise with the first pick. The Washington Wizards selected Kentucky's John Wall. John is considered to be the best player in the NBA Draft and the top point guard. To learn more about John Wall please see my article on him here. Washington also had the 30th pick in the first round. The Wizards selected a 6'6" senior forward Lazar Hayward out of Marquette. Fox Sports states Hayward "athleticism won't blow anyone away, but he could turn into a very solid contributor off the bench."
Second Round Pick
The Wizards went international with the 35th pick selecting Nemanja Bjelica from Serbia. The 6'10 forward adds a bigger player to the roster. NBAdraft.net calls Nemanja "a playmaker and is able to create scoring opportunities for teammates thanks to his great vision, ability to see overtop of defenses and passing precision."
The Trade
The Wizards are rumored to be acquiring guard Kirk Hinrich and the 17th round pick in this year's draft according to chicagobreakingsports.com. Washington gets all this for a second round pick . Hinrich provides the Wizards with depth at the guard position to rotate with Arenas and Walls. It also helps solidify their back court if Arenas is traded. The 17th pick was used to select Kevin Seraphin of France. Kevin may still need some coaching. However he is a solid 6'9 forward with a lot of potential due to"his combination of strength and athleticism" according to NBAdraft.net.
Overall
The Wizards got their potential super star. They also drafted added potential role players who will battle it out to make the team and for playing team. They received a high draft pick, a veteran guard for a number two pick next year, The Wizards by far made out like bandits on draft night.
