Castle stars Nathan Fillion (Firefly) as Richard Castle, a famous pulp mystery writer who lives in New York City. After a crazed killer goes around the city killing people in the manner in which they die in one of Castle's books, the NYPD pulls in Castle to help solve the crime and find the right suspect.
But Detective Kate Beckett, played by Stana Katic, is not exactly thrilled with the idea that her new partner is the cocky writer and gives him a hard time, until he proves that he actually does have a gift for analyzing crime scenes and finding the bad guy.
A lot of the comedy in Castle comes from the interactions between Castle and Beckett, and of course there's a possible budding romance going on as well. But that should come in the later seasons of Castle, that is, if the show lasts that long. There are a lot of people who hope the show continues on for many seasons because Castle is escapist TV at its best and it's so darn fun to watch.
Nathan Fillion is a very funny actor, which leaves Beckett to be the "straight guy" and banter back and forth. Richard Castle is also writing a book that prominently features a character based on Kate Beckett--Nicky Heat. The creators of the show have taken the lighthearted attitude of the show and really run with it because in the Halloween week episode, Castle wears the costume of a "space cowboy," which is an homage to Fillion's former role in the now-canceled TV show, Firefly. In the same episode, there is also a reference to Buffy the Vampire Slayer, a show in which Fillion also appeared.
Another element of Castle that gives the show some added dimension is Castle's relationship with his daughter and his mother, who both live with him in a trendy New York loft. His daughter, Alexis, is his opposite--she's organized, bookish, and ambitious. Usually, he has some kind of interaction with Alexis in each episode, and sometimes she even gives him insight to a case he's working. His mother is a former Broadway actress, who's still young at heart.
If you're looking for a fun and entertaining show with crime show and comedy elements baked in, Castle might just be or you. You can also watch Castle online in a few places. You can find full length episodes as well as short clips of the show.
