my daughter and I knelt on the earth,
so we could plant a garden that grows,
digging together and sharing in such mirth.
We placed lettuce and spinach in their holes,
delicately patting the soil around them,
putting in all the love from our souls,
in order to assure they were in so firm.
With watering cans now full in our hands,
we gently poured water and food on our plants,
watching the awaiting leaves and soil and sand
feeling the drops hit them in a sort of dance.
A few weeks later we came back,
delighted to see how much had grown,
my daughter was excited about the garden's track,
and proud of the efforts that were all our own.

Post a CommentThis is great, Julie and I'm glad you got your daughter involved. You need to start a blog with this one and keep us updated.
Sweet. This reminds me of my miniature greenhouse that I have on the porch while I anxiously await the first signs of growth.
so sweet! there's nothing like growing your own garden... :)
I am going to have a big garden this year, but it's been too wet to till anything. I started some seeds inside, though. I can't wait to watch it all grow.
super
Nice Julie.
Lovely poem!
Love this, reminds me to get planting!!
awesome writing - we are still dropping into the 20s at night, so starting the plants inside. They should be ready to transplant in June - I hope.
Great stuff, Especially because you did it with your daughter.
