Watch Out David Archuleta, David Cook Steals the Show

April 15^th on American Idol was Mariah Carey week. Mariah Carey is one of those singers whose songs are difficult to sing but, most of the Idol contestants performed her songs very well. The worst of the night goes out to Brooke White, no surprise there, who sang the song "Hero". It appears that my predictions of Brooke White leaving American Idol this week may come true. Now that we've covered the bad it's time to move on to the good. Who had the best performance on American Idol tonight? David Cook, without a doubt, was the best performer on American Idol during Mariah Carey week. Who would have thought that the resident rocker would outdo contestants such as David Archuleta this week?

The show started out with a strong performance by Idol fan favorite David Archuleta. I felt bad for the contestants who had no choice but to follow his performance of "When You Believe" as David sang the song with the voice of an angel. Then, after many forgettable performances by the other American Idol contestants, David Cook took the stage.

"Always Be My Baby" is a huge pop song and I was interested to see just how David Cook would manage to pull it off. I didn't have much doubt after having watched David perform a rock version of Michael Jackson's "Billie Jean". Also as Ryan Seacrest put it, I never imagined David Cook would be singing a Mariah Carey song. David Cook did not disappoint as he gave a performance of a lifetime on American Idol this week.

I believe that tonight on American Idol David Cook was able to prove to America that he is the real thing. Not everyone can take a pop hit like "Always Be My Baby" and rock it out. American Idol contestants could learn a lot from David Cook. He isn't afraid to take risks and can turn any pop song into a rock hit. Tonight's performance was definitely one of David Cook's best performances of the season, if not the best. American Idol viewers no doubt have been calling his number all night.

So while many, including myself, have David Archuleta pegged for winning season seven of American Idol, David Cook walked away the winner tonight. After receiving high remarks from the American Idol judges David's soft side was exposed as he appeared to be crying tears of joy.
