Watch What You Post on Facebook!

We have to be careful on what we post on social networking sites. Extreme personal information and pictures should never be posted online. Once it is posted online there is no way you can clean up all the tracks because it take a simple click of a mouse to save pictures.

Fake Facebook (7/24/08)
In London a man sued a friend for placing unauthorized information about him on the social networking site Facebook. Mathew Firsht won $43,767 in court against Grant Raphael. Grant has set up a Facebook that looked as if Mathew has set it up. The page has incorrect information about Mathew's sexuality, political views and money owed to Grant. The brother spotted the paged and immediately informed the Facebook staff to delete the pages. Facebook said that the page was made from Grant's computer. Grant told the judges that people have created the page when he threw a party at his apartment the International Herald Tribune reports.

Pictures on Facebook (7/18/08)
In Providence, Rhode Island, Joshua Lipton's picture that was posted on Facebook got him two years in prison. Joshua was charge because he was drinking and driving, then hit a woman and seriously injured her. Two weeks after the incident he was at a Halloween party dressed as a prisoner. Someone posted the pictures on Facebook and the woman's lawyer was able to use that against him. The lawyer targeted Joshua lived a party life while the victim was in the hospital suffering. The judge sentenced him to two years in prison the Associated Press reports.

Med Students on Facebook (7/23/08)
The University of Florida found harsh materials relating to the medical students on Facebook. Many of the students joined Facebook groups that can be classified as racist, sexist, and nasty. Researchers found some pictures where the students where grabbing their breast and crotch. Some of the nicknames were Physicians looking for trophy wives in training. They said that there are more than 800 medical students and residents that have these posting on Facebook. However, only 37% of the sites were limited to friends. That means the remaining 63% anyone of the 80 million users could see and read their profiles. There is a group with 5,700 members called "I'm a doctor and I hope my patients don't see me on Facebook." Many students removed some pictures of them heavily parting after figuring out that some jobs were using Facebook as a tool to screen applicants the Associated Press reports.

    You do have to be careful! Nicely written. I have to be sure to mark any pictures I upload as private (only for friends) so that friends of friends can't view them too. Crazy how easy it is to see other people's private albums!
