Gone are the blue bloomers and eagle crested bustier, and in are leggings and a biker jacket. The hair band, a glove-like form of the bullet repelling bracelets and truth lasso, however, stay-as do the stars-though in a more subtle way.
Though Wonder Woman's old costume is a little "in your face" with the patriotic symbolism, and skin showing skimpiness, Lynda Carter's stunning curves squeezed into the bloomers and bustier stick in the mind of anyone who's ever seen the 1970's television show.
If you haven't seen the 1970'stelevision version of Wonder Woman and you're not sure what all the fuss is about, episodes of the TV hit can be viewed online at the WB website.
Lynda Carter, a former beauty queen with a limited acting resume and Lyle Wagonner, better known for comedic roles, and as a pin-up, starred in all three seasons of the Wonder Woman television series.
The first season on Wonder Woman screened on ABC, and was set in during World War II, and opens with Major Steve Trevor crash landing on Paradise island the home of a society of beautiful Amazon women. He is nursed back to health and Princess Diana returns him to the United States. When Major Trevor's secretary turns out to be a Nazi spy, Diana Prince a Navy Yeoman becomes his secretary.
When ABC passed on renewing Wonder Woman for cost reasons, CBS picked up the option for Womder Woman from production company Warner Brothers.
The second season and third seasons of Wonder Woman were set in, the then; present day-the 1970's. This time Amazon princess, Princess Diana works for the son of the original Major Steve Trevor who bears an uncanny resemblance to father and is also portrayed by Lyle Waggoner. Diana and Steve lose their military uniforms for up to the minute 1970's fashions and storylines turn to spy and espionage plots, with Diana becoming an independent intelligence agent, not just Steve Trevor's assistant.
As with most 70's television series, the storytelling and plots, don't really hold up against modern remakes, but that star spangled eagle encrusted costume, made Lynda Carter famous, and that, and a walk down memory lane, make catching a few episodes a must.
