Watching and Waiting

Mike Powers
Watching and waiting as morning comes calling,
Darkness still lingers in yon western sky.
O'er eastern horizon... a gentle intrusion:
Roseate rays of the dawn tiptoe in.

A star overhead still reluctantly twinkles;
As blackness of midnight gives way to the light.
Begrudging, the crescent moon fades from the night sky,
Its countenance hidden by morning's first glow.

The sun soon arises in fiery splendor
And eastern sky heralds the breaking new morn.
The distant hills, outlined in stark silhouette,
Will shortly be basking in dawn's orange blush.

Watching and waiting now, I greet the dawn;
Resuming my journey, I slowly walk on...

    Very nice. It's great to be up before dawn and to see the orange glow of the sun as it begins to rise. Sadly I do this infrequently, but it's so tranquil at that time of the day.
