There are 2 suspense thriller movies that look good this weekend. One is "Watchmen," and one is "The Knowing," starring Nicholas Cage.
"Watchmen," looks like a movie that might be worthwhile seeing on the big screen. It comes to us from the same director of the movie, "300." I saw "300," on the big screen and really loved the special effects. The only thing I felt was that something was missing. My friend that I went to the movie with seemed to feel that the something that was missing was a feeling that was created by so much CGI animation. And that this in a way, you can't quite put your finger on makes the movie a little off time or something. I'm inclined to agree. Yet I still like computer animation and sometimes I find it is truly beautiful; so I'm looking forward to seeing this movie. But, I'll probably wait for it to come out on video; cool special effects and all.
"Watchmen," is based on the dark graphic novel of the same name by Alan Moore and David Gibbons. Many fans of the series have been anxiously awaiting it's arrival as a movie for quite some time. So I'm hoping that the weirdness or off time of the CGI effects will not be an issue considering that these are supernatural characters and not human ones. That subtle expectation of reality won't be there and I can just enjoy the movie.
"The Knowing," starring Nicholas Cage looks to be a good one as well. Nicolas Cage finds a time capsule which has startling information about dangerous events that are going to happen in the world. He decides to stop them from happening. I could see this being your typical suspense-filled movie that is generally entertaining for most people. I don't know if it would bother me throughout the movie that he is altering the fabric of time though. We all know from television that when you travel back in time you shouldn't do anything at all like kill a bug etc. LOL. Wouldn't this in essence be the same thing?. Yet this to me seems like it will be a movie's movie and nothing you could take seriously; but something you can always watch.
Though both movies look good if I had to choose; I would go see "Watchmen," on the big screen. I would think the special effects worth the money. I still want to see "The Knowing," though. But for $50; I just don't know if I could bring myself to do it. So if you've decided to spend the cash; I would think one of these movies would be a good bet for a weekend viewing at the movies.
