The First Official Poster for Water for Elephants Raises Anticipation for the Movie Release

With less than three months to go until the April 22nd release date for Water For Elephants, the upcoming romantic drama set in the Depression Era of the 1930's, and starring Robert Pattinson, Reese Witherspoon and Christoph Waltz, anticipation as to how successful this movie will be is already rising fast.

This week the first official movie poster for Water For Elephants was released, and shows Robert Pattinson in a loving caress with Reese Witherspoon, with a background of an elephant on the left, and an angry looking Christoph Waltz on the right.

You can see the official poster for Water For Elephants on Entertainmentwise, which also has a number of other good photos taken from the movie.

Water For Elephants is a major departure for Robert Pattinson, who is best known for his roles as Cedric Diggory in the Harry Potter movies, and the vampire Edward Cullen in the Twilight Saga.

There haven't been a lot of Depression Era movies in recent years, however with the success of Kevin Costner's Field Of Dreams (1989) and the more recent HBO Series Carnivale (2003), which coincidentally also revolved around a circus, this is a period that is certainly coming back into fashion.

The widespread poverty of the Depression Era, combined with the frustration and futility of life, the struggle to survive, and the eccentricities of the characters involved with the traveling circus, all make the background to the movie dark, mysterious and intriguing.

Add to that the blossoming romance that develops between the handsome young Robert Pattinson, and the gorgeous Reese Witherspoon, who is married to the deeply jealous lion tamer Christoph Waltz, and you have a recipe for what could be a potentially highly successful movie.

But how will Robert Pattinson fans react to this departure from his previous acting roles I wonder.

Water For Elephants might not be to the taste of many of Robert Pattinson's younger fans, but there is every hope that playing a more adult role like this he could pick up a lot more fans from a more mature audience.

I guess we just have to wait a couple of months more until the movie is released, the reviews come in, and we can all see Water For Elephants for ourselves.

@Christian I agree with you, this could either be a flop or a big hit. I don't think people will go to see it just for the cast, but it does look to be a good production.

Wow, would've never thought to pair Pattinson with Reese. I've always liked her work, it might be worth seeing.

I am not a big fan of Robert Pattinson either, nor Reese Witherspoon really, but I do enjoy Depression Era movies, and this sounds from the review of the book and what I have heard so far like it could be a really good movie. There is enough intrigue in the synopsis, and for once I haven't heard the ending, so whether it's a happy one or not, I have no idea. Worth seeing I think. Maybe I ought to get a copy of the book.

The book on which the movie was based is in my book club. I didn't think I'd be interested in the book, so not sure if I'd be interested in the movie. I've heard of Pattinson but never saw his movies. Good write up, though, Tony. Very professional.

This one is not for me. It is about the human condition. cruelty and abuse, human and animal. Too much reality for me.

This sounds like a movie I would like to see. Have seen recent movie trailers at the theater for this one.

I don't like Pattinson so that puts me off the movie unfortunately.
