Water Filter Systems for the Home

Get Rid of that Expensive Bottled Water Habit

David Jenkins
Everyday more and more people are turning to bottled water because they think it is safer than drinking water from their tap, but getting enough healthy and safe water does not mean that you need to be spending your hard earned money for flavored waters or even those fancy bottles. With water filter technology constantly improving you might actually be pouring your money down the drain.

More than likely the water that is coming out of your tap is probably pretty good, but that does not mean that you cannot improve it and make it healthier and taste better that's where filters come into play.

If your drinking water has been tasting a little off or maybe you are worried that the contaminants present might be higher than the recommended safety standards water filters will help you take care of these problems and there are several different options of them that are available to you.

The simplest and least expensive of these water filtering systems is the pitcher with a carbon filter inside. You may be familiar with these as they are similar to the Brita Water Filter pitchers and the Pur Water Filter pitchers. Once the carbon filter inside the pitcher is activated the filter traps any contaminants that might be present as the water passes through leaving you with nice, clear, great tasting water in your glass.

Another option if you are not interested in a pitcher filter is carbon filters that can be installed directly onto your faucet tap. It is very easy to install one of these tap filters and they work in the same way as the pitcher method. The advantage is that you do not have to constantly be filling up a pitcher. However, the filters will lose their effectiveness over time, also, and will need to be changed about every three months.

If you are not into seeing a filter on your faucet everyday, but would rather it be hidden there is also an option where can install the filter underneath your sink. Again, there are several styles that you can choose from and they range in price from around $40 all the way up to around $400.

One final top-of-the-line water filtering platform for the home that you may be interested in if you are looking for something that is practically hands-off is a Whole House water filtering system. This system will filter and clean all of your water before it even enters your home. They are designed to remove any sediments and rust that may be in the water, which will also help any of your water-related appliances to last longer.

A Whole House water filter is more of an advanced project so you may want to have a plumber do the installation for you, but it will be well worth it. No matter what type of filtering system you decide on keep in mind that it is always a good idea to have your water tested at least once a year, especially if your water is from a well.
