Water for Fuel!!!

Automotive Water Power

Jay Safford
I have been an automotive technician for a long time and I often wonder if we will ever be non oil dependant in my lifetime? In the past three years I have been studying the use of water in different ways to produce hydrogen and power a car over long distances and only have to stop and get more water. The concept first hit me when I seen a small car in a scientific catalog that uses sun power to convert distilled water into hydrogen and oxygen and store them then reuse this to power an electric motor to propel the vehicle by the use of what is called a fuel cell.

I thought this to be a new invention and this would surely be the wave of cars in the near future, then upon more research I found that the membrane that is used to make this happen was invented for NASA and the apollo mission in the 1960's by 3M and is now just being duplicated in other forms by other companies and is spreading alot faster to the private sector. This membrane is called NAFION and it will take water and separate it into hydrogen and oxygen when an electrical current is passed thru it. The oppisite is tru if you sent in oxygen on one side and hydrogen on the other it will produce electrical current for use and the result is water on the outtlet.

This is where we should be spending large amounts of money for developement to make this affordable to everyone and get rid of the smog and global warming that fossil fuels have caused. This technology started before oil was used to make gas and was not pursused till now ans I see new companies popping up daily to get there stake in the future and our country is behind the eight ball on this due to the glut of the fat oil companies. We need to get off the oil train and onto the water train. I am sure if BMW and some other manufactures can come up with a hydrogen car for production I am sure we can to in short order and make it affordable and not more expensive like the electric hybrids have been.

We all have a voice in this and can make this happen and if we stick to our guns and not to the oil we could get off the train and set off in another direction that may help this planet heal it self and help us breath better.

You're 100% right. If we stop subsidizing oil exploration and spent the money on developing new technologies, that would be a great start...

You are right, without public pressure nothing will change. And the pressure can come in many forms. Political-let your reps know-economic-stop using so much oil...moral-think about all of our children's future..
