Water for Weight Loss

John Tan
Most people do not drink enough water. Many of these people are carrying around some more pounds than they would if they drank enough water. You may want to try drinking more water than you normally would, to get off some weight.

Water consumption helps the metabolism of the liver to kick in normally. It is this process that burns up fat. If you take more water, the kidneys function to the fullest extent possible.

Initially you may feel too hydrated and you may find yourself running to the bathroom often. But this is normal. It is an expected reaction from your body. But in the long run, you will be doing your body a great favor by consuming more than enough water.

Water flushes out impurities present in your skin, and makes your skin look younger. Hydrated skin cells look nicer. Water also improves muscle tone.

It is advised that those who are looking to take water for weight loss need to take at least eight glasses of water a day (three liters total each day). The water consumption should be spread out evenly throughout the day. You are advised to drink water even when you are not feeling thirsty, at regular intervals.

You may want to stop drinking water at least three hours before bed time so that you don't have to get up often to urinate. Warmer water is easier to take than colder water. Water also has the effect of decreasing your appetite.

You should not rely upon consuming water for weight loss entirely. You should also have a healthy dieting habit and should also exercise regularly.

Any good weight loss program will need abundant water consumption. Water is readily available, cheap, and free of side-effects. Steady water intake also reduces water retention in your body. It is possible to lose four pounds of weight within a month of taking more than enough water.

A research program in Germany concluded that water consumption increases the rate at which the body burns calories. They found that within 10 minutes of drinking a liter of water, metabolic rates increase by up to 30 percent.

The process of burning calories itself creates toxins in your body. Water can flush them out of your body. Not consuming enough water can lead to dehydration which will slow down the fat-burning process.

Drinking other liquids can provide a source of water for your body. But if you are taking caffeinated drinks, they cause your body to expel water. Then you need to take more water to compensate the loss.

But keep in mind water is not a magic potion that is going to burn out all calories by revving up your metabolism. A little water before you sit down to eat will help you feel fuller sooner and so will reduce the amount of food you take. If you are a junk-food eater throughout the day, reaching for a glass of water every time you feel the craving for junk food will be much better for your body.
