What better way to enjoy your dinner on your vacation than to be sitting on the beach looking out at the ocean and listening to the serene sounds of the surf. At Waterman's Surfside Grille, you can do just that.

Located at Fifth and Oceanfront, Waterman's Surfside Grille is the perfect, relaxing, ocean side dining experience. Looking at Waterman's from the outside, it appears to be a small building with limited parking scrunched between other buildings. Entering Waterman's, the first thing you will notice is the small entrance way with a small expensive gift show to the left and a lot of people crowded around. Once you're seated and out of the waiting area, you quickly are able to see that it was worth the wait.

Waterman's Surfside Grille is quite a large restaurant covered in gorgeous cherry and mahogany wood. The oceanfront side of the restaurant is covered in windows that allowed you to see out to the ocean which was only a few yards away. There was also outside dining, but the seating inside and out was set up in almost a layered style so there was no obstruction to your view of the ocean. The aisles in the dining room were a very tight squeeze, but the staff didn't seem to mind. The staff was friendly, bubbly and truly seemed to enjoy their job.

The menu was very straight forward - appetizers, salads, seafood, steak, ribs, chicken, pasta, burgers and deserts. The menu descriptors made everything from the crab dip to the seafood platters to the burgers sound irresistible which made it extremely difficult to choose just one item. With everything on the menu under $20, you could definitely splurge and choose an appetizer or dessert.

For around $7 we ordered a large plate of deliciously tender calamari. For my and my fiance's entree, we both chose the Crab ripper dinner, which was a large lump of crab meat, crisp bacon, and melted mozzarella on a toasted Kaiser roll. This was the best crab sandwich I had eaten during my vacation at Virginia Beach. Every bite was full of flavor and you could tell that it was freshly made. The lump of crab covered the entire roll and you were never biting into just the bread. Plus, it was only $14!

Our friends both had chosen the Guinness Burger. Waterman's Guinness Burger was a huge Angus cheeseburger with thick strips of bacon, red onions and a unique Guinness mustard aioli sauce on a toasted Kaiser roll for only 10 bucks. I'm not a beer fan, but I trust my friends when they advised that the burger was amazing.

At Waterman's Surfside Grille, the food is outstanding, the service is wonderful and the view is perfect. I highly recommend Waterman's as your first pick for oceanfront dining. You definitely will dine in affordable relaxation!
