First, you'll need to take the lid off of the wax jar. It takes about 2 minutes in the microwave to melt the wax. The kit comes with a small white spatula, that when dipped in the wax, it will indicate whether or not the wax is the right temperature by saying "ready". If it's too hot, the spatula will be blank. The wax should be like the consistency of honey when it's ready. Before waxing, make sure your face is clean, oil-free. If your skin is oily, it may be difficult for the wax to stay in place.
So it's time to decide the shape of your eyebrows. The kit comes with 3 different eyebrow stickers, that will help guide where to place the wax and remove hair. Next, you can use the small wooden stick or the spatula to spread the wax onto the hair that will be removed. Make sure you spread the wax on in the same direction the hair grows. After the wax is applied, allow it to cool for about 15-20 seconds. You'll know when the wax is ready, because it will be slightly hard but bendable enough to remove, and it will still be a little bit warm. Lift up the edge of the wax with your finger. Now, once you're ready, pull the strip of wax off quickly in the opposite direction of hair growth. You'll know if you did it right, because the hair will be in the wax and not on your face! If you didn't do it correctly, try it again until the hair is removed. Repeat the steps until you've removed all of the hair you wanted to come off. If there are some stray hairs, you can also pluck them away with the mini tweezers that are included in the kit. Finally, use the Soothing Cream that comes in the kit to remove any excess wax and to reduce redness on your skin.
The wax kit will last about 6-8 weeks, depending on how much wax you use each time, and how often you wax. So far, I've gotten about 8 eyebrow waxings out of it and I still have a little bit of wax left to use. The ingredients in the wax include Natural Tree Rosin, beeswax and an aloe vera formula, all of which are gentle on your skin.
Overall, this is an excellent product to use at home. It may take some practice to learn how to use, but it is worth the savings and trips to the salon. Sally Hansen carries a complete line of home waxing kits, including bikini area wax kit and all-over body wax kits, all of which are available at stores such as Wal-Mart, Rite Aid, Walgreens, etc.
