Wayman Tisdale Has Leg Amputated

Former NBA star Wayman Tisdale has apparently had part of his leg amputated after learning that he had cancer. Wayman Tisdale had stated that this was the only way to ensure that the cancer would not return. Wayman Tisdale learned of the cancer after breaking his leg in at his Los Angeles home. The cancer was located right below his right knee, according to the Chicago Tribune.

I had a cousin who died from cancer after they learned that he had cancer in his bones. When cancer gets into your bones, there isn't much that you can do except make the person comfortable. My cousin, Jimmy, died at 23 with a new bride and a baby on the way. It wasn't until after he had died that I started to become more concerned about my health and the health of others.

Cancer is what many call the silent killer. Cancer can come with no symptoms until it is too late. Checkups are recommended and should be followed for everyone. Cancer is not prejudice.

There are many non-profit agencies that try to raise money to find a cure. I often donate to causes like these since as a mother and a wife I would be devastated if someone in my family ended up with a cancer and they weren't able to cure them since the proper research was not able to be done.

I can only imagine that Tisdale's wife was terrified during the process of the diagnosis, the treatment, and the amputation. Tisdale had to have knee replacement surgery due to the cancer but I know that I would rather have this surgery done than to lose my life.

Tisdale will probably be able to lead a normal life once again but may not be able to do the things that he once did. Having surgery requires a person to learn how to cope with it and how to get their life stable once more. Surgery also requires a person to recuperate after the surgery. I hope that no one ever has to go through the life of living with cancer but for those that do should remember that medicine is getting better by the day.
