Wayne Rooney to Light Up World Cup

It would not be an exaggeration to say Wayne Rooney is likely to be the key to any success England may have at the World Cup. Most experts would agree that if Rooney was to get injured then England's World Cup chances would disappear. On the flip side if he stays fit then he could give England a real chance of winning the World Cup.

Wayne Rooney came through the Everton Academy and from an early age was spotted to be a special talent in the making. In fact a young Wayne Rooney once scored six goals in an u9's game against Manchester United. On his debut for Manchester United Rooney scored a fantastic hat-trick and went on to score goals on a regular basis for Manchester United and England.

It could be argued that England could replace the goals, but is the all round player that is impossible to replace. Rooney is a special talent that only comes around every so often. The other factor that will scare other countries is Rooney is a man in form. He has just had a fantastic season in the Premier League by scoring 26 league goals. Rooney is no one trick pony and there is no easy way to stop him. He can score goals inside and outside the box, with his head and has a habit of scoring spectacular goals.

England is likely to deploy Rooney up front a target man such as Peter Crouch or Emile Heskey. But it's versatility that is one of his strongest attributes. Rooney can also be used as an attacking midfielder and if needed played on the wing. This is going make it hard to defend against him. Countries will not know how to handle him if he is used differently.

It would be wrong to assume Rooney is all about scoring goals. Clever flicks, bits of movement and sublime passes are likely to lay on goals for his teammates. Stopping an in-form Wayne Rooney will be very hard. And even if some teams manage it, they will likely open up space for other players. There is little doubt in my mind that Rooney could be a real force in the World Cup. If he stays fit and performs like he can, then England may well be celebrating winning the World Cup.
