If you are on vacation in Ohio and don't want to give up your pastime of walking, you should consider visiting Waynesville, which is considered one of the best places to walk in the country. It is also considered the Antiques Capital of the Midwest. You will enjoy a walk no matter what season you visit the quaint town. A visit to Waynesville is like a visit to a shopping mall from the 1800's with characters galore. The town has special activities all during the year.

A five block area on "Old Main Street" has more than 70 Mom and Pop stores, with antiques, crafts, custom woodworking, collectibles, eateries, coffee houses and specialty shops. Each building has a rich Quaker heritage and is an example of classic Victorian architecture. You will find plenty of people out for a stroll, whether it's a cold winter day or the middle of summer.

As you walk by the charming buildings from the 1800's, copper street lamps, and walk on brick sidewalks, you will gaze at an endless variety of Victorian homes turned shops. You will also notice the colorful window boxes and street-side benches.

You may see merchants unloading trucks with merchandise from nearby or around the world.

Whether you are going for a walk or not, you will enjoy a visit to Waynesville any time of the year. There are numerous special activities throughout the year to make a visit even more entertaining.

Activities include the Old Main Street Antique Show in May and September, the Ohio Renaissance Festival from August to October, the Ohio Sauerkraut Festival in October and Christmas in the Village in December. There are nearby attractions, Caesar's Creek State Park, featuring an 18th Century Pioneer Village, with more than 20 restored buildings from the period.

Other nearby attractions include the United States Air Force Museum in Dayton, the Blue Jacket Outdoor Drama in Xenia, Caesar Creek State Park, the Golf Center at King's Island, the Lebanon Grand Opry House, and Paramount's Kings Island (a world-famous amusement park).

If you come to walk in Waynesville October 13 or 14, you will see one of the top shows in the nation in the Ohio Sauerkraut Festival. Vendors come from as far away as Hawaii, Florida, and California.

This year will also feature a variety of entertainment, including the Gospel Mountain Boys, 1st Edition Bluegrass, the Roving Rouges, Chris and the Cruisers, and others.

As you walk through Waynesville from August to October, you will see the Renaissance Festival. You will have the chance to see an authentically recreated 16th century English village. You will rub elbows with nobility and by entertained by 100's of costumed performers in a variety of daily shows.

You won't soon forget a walk through Waynesville.
