Ways to Beat Atlanta's Summer Heat

MB
Atlanta usually has pretty nice weather, but sometimes the city turns into "Hotlanta." Days turn into weeks with temperatures ranging from 90 degrees to 105 degrees. Occasionally, the weather gets so hot the electricity burns out. Not only are you hot you also are left with no lights, warm water, or way to prepare food. When the summer heat wave hits it's good to know how to stay cool.

Most people turn the air conditioner on and just stay inside to avoid the heat. Turning off all unused appliances will maximize the benefits of the air conditioner. Try not to cook with the oven or leave the TV on. If your electricity goes out there are other options to help you stay cool in the summer heat.

Atlanta has many local beaches. Visit Lake Lanier, Sun Valley Beach, Clayton County Beach, or Red Top Mountain State Park. What better way to cool off then to become a beach bum! Besides, you can get the perfect tan at Atlanta's beaches! Pack your beach bag with some suntan lotion, sunglasses, a coca-cola, and a towel. Everyone in Atlanta must drink Coke because the World of Coca-Cola is here. Stop by and take a tour of the company. They offer free samples of coke to visitors.

Speaking of great places to cool off in Atlanta, Six Flags has many water slides, roller coasters, and other exciting ways to cool off. The Georgia Aquarium is the largest in the world. That should get you cooled off! Centennial Olympic Park has water fountains for kids to play in and other fun features. Atlanta has indoor fun too! The Fern bank Museum and the High Museum are good ways to learn about science, art, and cool off at the same time.

Of course, you can go see our sports teams. The Atlanta Braves, Atlanta Falcons, and the Atlanta Thrashers are all exciting to watch. Watching the Atlanta Thrashers practice in an ice hockey rink sounds wonderful in 100 degree weather!

If you live in Atlanta and want to escape for a little while go on vacation. A nice trip to the north would help cool you off from the summer heat. Many countries in Europe are cooler then Atlanta in the summer. Kids are out of school, so traveling is easy.

If you're not the traveling type, stay home and rent a movie. A cool bath is a great way to relax in the summer time. Swimming is a favorite past-time of just about everyone. There are many local parks too. Parks offer shade trees, places to BBQ, and toys for kids.

Don't sweat the summer heat. Stay cool by following this advice. "Hotlanta" is the best place to live, or visit, even if the summer is a little too hot.
