With the increasing incidence of diseases affecting the whole world, it is every individual's responsibility to take good care of themselves and pay more attention to health. The spread of H1N1 Influenza A virus, or better known as "Swine Flu" has become a pandemic affecting many people around the world. The spread of infection is through direct contact. Those who are exposed to the person directly are the ones who are at a greater risk of contracting the disease.

In order to prevent the spread of communicable diseases, people should pay more attention to their health and should do means to maintain a healthier body. It is very important to keep the body healthy to be able to fight off diseases. With a weak body, the person becomes susceptible to infections, either bacterial or viral. But by doing simple preventive measures, diseases can be prevented and a good physical well-being can be attained. Here are some tips on how to boost the immune system and prevent contracting diseases:

Always wash hands. Proper hand hygiene is very important because the hands can be a carrier of pathogens and microbes that can cause diseases. Frequent hand washing is necessary in order to prevent spreading of germs in case you have already contracted the disease.

Drink plenty of water. Drinking water is the best way to maintain hydration. Keep in mind that the skin is the body's first line of defense. This means that the skin is responsible for preventing the entry of pathogens. If the skin becomes dehydrated, the mucus cells will not be able to function properly thus pathogens can easily enter the body.

Have a regular routine exercise. With a regular exercise, the circulation of blood throughout the body is enhanced. It doesn't necessarily mean that you will immediately undergo intensive workouts; you can try mild exercises and avoid living a sedentary lifestyle.

Eat the right kind of foods. Instead of eating fast foods every day, eat foods that are rich in vitamins and minerals. Give yourself a daily dose of fruits and vegetables because these are rich in fiber, antioxidants, and vitamins that will boost the immune system. Manage everyday stressors. True enough, stress can weaken the immune system. A person who is stressed out will experience deterioration of the immune system and would sick often. When a person is stressed out, the body lacks energy to repair and restore the immune system. In order to prevent getting stressed out, managing and reducing stress would be the best approach.
