Ways to Celebrate a Boyfriend's Birthday: The Geek

Want to do something really special this year for your geeky boyfriend's birthday? Are you sure he'd want you to? Before you start planning, keep in mind that not every guy wants an elaborate shin dig to remind him that he is one year older. If your boyfriend is someone who doesn't care for fanfare, one of the best ways you can celebrate his birthday is by not celebrating it. If, however, you know he would appreciate the gesture, check out these fun ways to celebrate your geeky boyfriend's birthday.

Ways to Celebrate a Geeky Boyfriend's Birthday

When planning his birthday, keep it simple. Guys tend to hate elaborate events or a complicated set up. While you may like the idea of a costume party or cute little appetizers, he may not. Men generally don't want to have to work at having fun. If he's older and cheap, impress him by sticking to a low budget.

If He's Turning 21

If this is your man's 21st, and you suspect that he wants to drink, a good way to celebrate it is by opting to be the designated driver. Tote him around town or pick him up at night's end, if he's doing a guy's only gig. Keep in mind that he's likely to get pretty toasted and may not want you around. This brings us to the next idea.

Be Cool with a Guy's Only Night

If your boyfriend has let you know or hinted at the fact that he'd rather celebrate his birthday with his buddies, the best way you can show him your support is by not getting offended. Your man probably spends a lot more time with you than he does his buds.

Host a Video Game Party

If your boyfriend loves video games and is always trying to get you to play, one way to celebrate his birthday is to host a video game party. Whether it's Guitar Hero World Tour, DJ Hero or Halo, ask his closest fun friends (his, not yours) to join you for a night of singing, jamming or shooting. If you can't borrow the equipment, another fun group game is Scene It.

Take a Trip to a Geek Convention

If budget allows, others ways to blow his mind include taking him to a video game, sci-fi or comic convention.

Find a Nerdy Project to Do Together

Another way to celebrate his birthday is to take an interest in a geeky project that he is working on. Or find a project that you think he would enjoy and purchase the necessary materials. Visit Hackaday.com for ideas.
