Ways to Celebrate Grandparents Day

How to Celebrate Grandparents Day

Grandparents are a precious resource! Be sure to show them your appreciation on Grandparents Day. Here are some ideas for crafts and activities that will help your children to express their affection, respect and love for their grandparents. Let your children take the lead on this day. After all, this celebration is for their grandparents!

Tea and Cookies

If the weather permits, have a small celebration between your children and their grandparents outside. If not, an indoor celebration at the dinner table or at a tea room would just as delightful.

Let your children choose flowers for the centerpiece. If your tea will be at home, let them also help prepare cookies and cake. Finger sandwiches are another idea for your Grandparents Day tea. Let your children enjoy this time with their grandparents; you do the serving of the tea and cakes.

Let your children sing songs and recite poems for their grandparents during their tea time. If your children play a musical instrument, let them perform a tune.

Be sure to take pictures of your family's Grandparents Day tea. These will be treasured memories for the generations.

Video

A fun idea is to let your children prepare a video to give their grandparents as a gift on Grandparents Day.

One idea is to let your children take turns in the video telling what they love most about their grandparents. They might also tell a favorite memory they have of their grandparents.

Another video idea for Grandparents Day is to record your children reciting poetry, singing songs or playing a musical instrument.

One more idea is to record a video of the Grandparents Day celebration itself! In fact, you could make a tradition of recording the Grandparents Day celebrations in your family. Each Grandparents Day you can watch the videos of previous years.

Let your children make wrapping paper for the DVD by decorating butcher paper with their handprints.

Generation Photograph

Prior to Grandparents Day, take a picture of at least three generations of your family together. You might take a photo of every one together as well as pictures of the male family members together and the female family members together.

Find a lovely frame for the photo. Wrap the framed photo in paper decorated by your children and give it to the grandparents on Grandparents Day.

No matter how you celebrate Grandparents Day, make sure that you keep as much of the focus on the grandparents as is possible. You know how grandparents are about letting their grandchildren be in the limelight!
