I have tried some of the common suggestions for helping morning sickness, such as eating crackers upon waking. Sadly, none of these has worked for me. Luckily, I have found some ways to minimize the morning sickness.
String Cheese
Before I go to bed at night, I put 2 pieces of string cheese in a small cooler with an icepack and put it right next to my bed. As soon as I wake up in the morning, I snack on the string cheese. If I wake up during the night, I automatically eat one piece of string cheese. I have learned that the string cheese that has cheddar in it that comes in the variety pack isn't good for my morning sickness. That kind only made things worse.
Carnation Instant Breakfast
I drink milk with one packet of Carnation Instant Breakfast with my breakfast each morning. I am not sure exactly why this helps my morning sickness, but I have noticed that when I don't drink my Carnation, my morning sickness is much worse. I only drink it with 2% milk because whole milk upsets my stomach.
Nuts
If my morning sickness strikes after I am out of bed, I snack on some nuts-mostly cashews; however, I have also eaten almonds, walnuts and pecans. Peanuts seem to aggravate my morning sickness so I make sure to avoid those. I have also eaten cashew butter on toast or Ritz crackers.
Yogurt
Plain yogurt and vanilla flavored yogurt are also go-to foods when I start to feel that nauseated feeling during the day. I learned this technique when I had frequent ulcerative colitis flare ups. If I don't eat yogurt during the day, I make sure to eat it as a snack before bed.
Exercise
By exercising, I can keep my digestive tract working properly, which helps my morning sickness. I take a walk daily, outside when possible. If I can't walk outside, I stretch and do yoga.
Conclusion
Morning sickness isn't a pleasant symptom of pregnancy, but it is possible to minimize the nausea without having to take medications.
