Ways to Cover Your Bay Window

Are you trying to figure out the perfect way to accent your bay window without taking away from the beauty itself? Well, rest assured because there are many ways that you can cover your bay window to ensure that you keep the beauty of it. You will be able to accent the room with a variety of ideas. Do you simply want to change how your room feels? Do you want to try to warm the feel up? There is an easy way to do this. Try wood blinds. They can be wood or faux wood blind that are the color of your choice. Try to get at least 1 1/2 "slats so that when you look at your bay window, it will make the window look larger. The larger the slats, the more likely you will not concentrate solely on the vertical aspect of the blinds. Above the window you will need to mount a sill that is about 3" to hold your blinds up.

If you are not into a wood, there are pleated shades that can give your room a softer more warmth felt atmosphere. These are made out of fabric and give you a wide variety of colors, patterns, and textures to choose from. These shades can be raised or lowered and do not offer a slatted rotation. With pleated shades, you will have natural light filter into the room if you choose not to open the shades. Once again, you will need a sill that is roughly 3" to hold the shades up.

If you have trouble keeping your room warm where the bay window is, you can try insulating the window. You could use a honeycomb shade. This shade has air pockets that will trap the cold air from coming into the room. They are very similar to pleated shades in the aspect that they have a wide variety of choices. You will need to install a sill that is roughly 2" to hold these shades up.

Another idea that you could do to tie the bay window into what you have done with the room is to use a valence. You will need to have at least a medal rod that you can use to put the valence up. This is where there is a small amount of material that is at the top of the window. It adds color to your room and enhances the beauty of your window.

The last thing that you could use to give your window design is swag. The swag is a lot like the valence in that it has the material outline the top of the window, however with the swag there is more. The swag outlines the entire window with a beautiful lace or material to enhance the shape of the bay window. The middle of the window is not covered at all. Once again you would need a metal rod that you could use to put the valence up. The metal rods come with a small stand that you would screw into the wall above the window.
