Ways to Create Faux Windows in a Master Bedroom

A Room Without a View

Crystal Ray
A master bedroom should be grand no matter the size of the home or the size of the space, and ideally it should have multiple windows with blinds or drapes to sufficiently block incoming light while providing complete privacy. Not everyone can have a grand master suite, and even if the space is large, multiple windows are not always a part of the equation. Create faux windows instead. They can look absolutely magnificent, even without a real view.

Create Faux Windows with Framed Mirrors

My cousin had a beautiful master bedroom, but it was lacking a very important structural element. The space only had one window. Even though windows take up wall space, it would have been a plus to have at least one more. The light they add can be controlled, and they provide a way to enhance the style and beauty of the space with window treatments.

I suggested looking for framed mirrors that would serve as faux panes of glass. I have one mirror with window pane frames, and I imagined her master bedroom with faux windows that looked magnificent. We began shopping online for framed mirrors that looked like windows, and we found countless styles and sizes. We found a gorgeous eight-paneled mirror that looked like a cottage style window.

My cousin's faux window coordinated beautifully in her master bedroom with country cottage style. It looked fantastic above her bed, and it reflected a source of light from across the room. It also picked up the reflection of the actual windows, and at certain angles it was impossible to tell that it was a faux view.

Trompe L'oeil with a Beautiful Faux View

Mirrors are not required when trying to create faux windows. Consider adding trompe l'oeil windows with magnificent views. Trompe l'oeil is artistic imagery. It is a painted wall element that looks exceptionally real. It might be an artist's rendering of a shelf, a painting that looks just like stained glass or something architectural including windows with breathtaking views. When completed with proper perspective, realistic colors and fine details, it is nearly impossible to tell when it is faux, especially from a distance.

I am an oil painter, and I incorporate fine details into my work. I was taught perspective in advanced art classes, and I have am a realist in the world of fine art. If time allowed and I owned my home, I would create faux windows with views of beautiful gardens and serene ponds in my master bedroom.

Consider hiring a fine artist to create faux windows in your master bedroom. The images a talented artist creates are priceless in immeasurable ways. With the skills of a fine artist, you can have any view imaginable through faux windows. Best of all, it can be far more beautiful than the real view of the world outside.

Ah, as I suspected, you are an artist! It shows. I love this idea and am going to try it. It might help make my small bedroom feel more spacious. Thanks, Crystal!
