Each year I look at different techniques I can use for decorating my home at Christmas. One that recently caught my eye was the use of feather boas. When I saw a decorator using this technique on HGTV, I knew there were several ways I could incorporate this fun material into my own ideas. The following are just a few of the fun ways you can decorate with feather boas this Christmas.
Christmas Tree Tinsel Alternative
Why add the same boring tinsel year after year? Feather boas are an easy alternative that can be used to create a roaring 20s look for your Christmas tree. Try adding sparkly white feather boas for a simple, yet elegant look. Of course, if you want something more unique, you could use purple or pink to add a colorful touch to your Christmas theme.
Feather Boa Christmas Trees
If you want an inexpensive way to decorate your hall and other sparse areas of the home, feather boa Christmas trees in various sizes are a great option. You can use foam cones in various sizes and hot glue the boas to the cones. Arrange the cones in groups of tree in varying heights to create an interesting display. You may even want to use different colors of boas.
Doorway Decorations
Another fun idea is to use feather boas twisted with strings of lights in place of garland. While doorways are a wonderful place to hang this decoration, you could also use this technique across the backs of short bookshelves or around the mantle, just be sure to keep the boas far enough away from the flame.
Decorative Trim
One last way you can use feather boas is to add a festive trim to photo frames and lamps. You can either invest in inexpensive lamp shades and photo frames to use year after year and use hot glue or you can use tape or paper clips to keep the boas in place temporarily.
There are a number of materials and items that can be used to create new and inventive Christmas decorations. Raid your craft box and see what you can make that will add a bit of flare and fun to your holiday theme.
