USE LIGHTS AND METALLIC GARLAND: An old fashioned Christmas look is created by using metallic garland and stringing lights through it. Take the lit garland and wrap it around the hand rail of your staircase banister. This look alone is great for your banister, but you could also hang some red and green Christmas bulb ornaments from it to make it really festive.
USE HOLLY AND BERRIES: Use a holly and berry garland to wrap around your banister to give a country Christmas look. You can usually find pre-made garlands with holly and berries in them at many retail stores that carry Christmas decor.
USE GREENERY AND ORNAMENTS: Use a simple pine greenery garland. You could string lights through the garland before hanging it for added twinkle. Simply wrap the greenery garland around the banister and hang some Christmas ornaments from it to make it beautiful.
USE ICICLE LIGHTS: Hang a strand of icicle lights from the banister for a Christmas, wintery look. You could then use some cotton or white fabric to wrap the banister in, making it look like it is covered in snow. You can buy white cottony fabric with glitter through it for Christmas decorating at craft stores and fabric stores.
HANG STOCKINGS: You could simply hang your stockings from the banister also. Many people hang them on the fireplace mantle, but it you do not have a mantle or simply want a change, try hanging them on the banister. Wrap some greenery and lights around the banister and you will have a festive Christmas look.
There are many ways to help make your staircase look festive for the holiday season. Consider wrapping some empty boxes and placing a few on a couple of steps. You could also wrap some picture frames to hang on the walls of the staircase. Try hanging a mistle-toe at the bottom of the staircase for some added fun in the decorating. Place a small Christmas Santa Clause or stuffed Snowmen on the bottom stair of the staircase. If you have a landing you could even put a small decorated Christmas tree on it for added Christmas beauty. Be creative and have fun decorating for the season.
