When a Blackberry is disconnected it is still a functional device. Of course it can no longer send or receive calls, emails or text messages, but it is worth keeping and using for other purposes. I recently cancelled wireless service with Sprint because of a lengthy loss of service in my area. Even though my Blackberry is disconnected, I find it very useful in a number of helpful, entertaining and practical ways.
Use it as a Media Player and a Camera
Do you have music stored on your Blackberry or MicroSD card? A disconnected Blackberry can still be used as a media player. Additional media can be downloaded if the device is connected to a computer. It still provides a great way to enjoy your favorite music, photos, videos and more.
My Blackberry takes fantastic photos, and I still plan to use it as a camera and a video recorder. I have a card reader that connects to my computer with a USB cable. I can easily transfer photos and videos from the card to my computer. Photo Editor Ultimate still works as well. It was a free download from Sprint, and I am glad that I took advantage of it just before I had the service disconnected.
A Disconnected Blackberry Can Still Function as an Alarm
I use my disconnected Blackberry as a handy bedside alarm clock. Since it is disconnected, people can no longer wake me with calls or messages while I am sleeping if I forget to turn off the ringer. I can pick it up to see what time it is during the night without having the lights of a digital alarm clock continuously shining in my face. I also use the alarm for reminders.
Store Notes in a Disconnected Blackberry
A notepad is not necessary if you have a Blackberry. Even though mine is disconnected it still provides plenty of opportunities for storing voice and text messages. I can still use the memo pad, the task application, the calendar, and the voice recorder. I use the memo pad most often. It provides the ideal place to store article ideas.
Play Downloaded Games
I can still play my favorite games on my disconnected Blackberry. Word Mole, Brick Breaker, 4-in-a-Row, Lines Classic, Snakes, Solitaire and even SimCity Deluxe still work. All of the games I downloaded before the service was disconnected are still in operation. I can no longer play against other users or upgrade the games, but I never did anyway.
Keep a Digital Address Book
Old fashioned spiral address books are no longer necessary, especially if you have a disconnected Blackberry. It makes a fantastic address book. I still have all of the names, numbers and details provided by friends and family in my Blackberry, and I intend to keep using it for name and info storage. I can look up numbers, birthdays and other details in the address book.
Why get rid of a useful device just because a few overpriced services no longer work? A Blackberry is a mini computer, and many applications will continue to work after the device is no longer connected to an account. It is a multifunctional piece of equipment that is almost as useful as ever. I still love my Blackberry, especially since I no longer have to pay exorbitant monthly payments to Sprint.

Post a CommentGood ideas! I've been letting my old one go to waste...Time to start making better use of it. Love the idea about using it for an alarm without texts and calls waking you up.
Smart ways to make use of a Blackberry without a service provider!
