Ways to Display Holiday Cards

Christie Silvers
It's getting close to that time of year again. Time to start thinking about sending holiday cards out to all of your friends and family members. Which in turn means that you will be receiving a lot of holiday cards in your own mailbox from your friends and family members. What do you do with all of the holiday cards that you receive each year? Do you just toss them into a box? Or do they end up littering the top of your computer desk until you can no longer find anything on your desk due to the clutter? This year, why not display your holiday cards for everyone to see and enjoy. Here are a few simple ways to display your holiday cards.

My favorite way to display holiday cards is also a great way to get my children involved. I like to buy a roll or two of festive holiday ribbon and let the children help me to create a "paper chain" with the ribbons. You can make your own chain to any length that you would like or even add more links later on it needed. Once you have made the chain to your desired length, just use a hole puncher to punch out a hole in the corner of each holiday card and tie the cards to the chain's links with smaller ribbon or even ornament hooks. You can hang your holiday card chain anywhere in your house that you would like. I like to hang mine above the doorway opening going from my livingroom into the dinigroom so that my holiday guests can easily view all of the holiday cards. You could also hang them across your fireplace mantel or down your stairway banister.

Another easy way to display your holiday cards is with a traditional pine garland. I think that a prelit garland looks the best. This idea is very similar to the holiday card chain but takes less time on your part to create the look. You will want to use a hole puncher, just like above, to punch out holes into the corners of each holiday card. Attach the pine garland to either your stair banister and/or fireplace mantel. Once the garland is attached securely, you can hang all of your beautiful holiday cards onto it by either ribbons or oranment hooks. For garland I prefer to use the ornament hooks. They seem to be a lot easier to use than ribbon on the garland.

This next way to display your holiday cards is also another way to use the prelit pine garland. For this version you will use the garland to frame a doorway. Attach the garland across the top of the doorway of your choice, making sure that it hangs evenly down both sides of the doorway if there is extra garland. You can add a big, beautiful holiday bow at the end of each side of the garland to make it look better than just the raw ends of the garland would look. Punch holes into all of your holiday cards and hang them onto the garland with ornament hooks.

These are just a few ways to display your holiday cards. There are many other ways to display your holiday cards. You could decorate an inexpensive cork board in festive holiday colors and pin all of your holiday cards to it. Or you could attach adhesive magnet strips onto the back of each holiday card and display them on your refrigerator or any other metallic surfaces. This is especially helpful if you have a big kitchen and your holiday parties will involve having tons of people in your kitchen helping out.

Holiday cards are usually sent with love and well wishes. That's why they should be displayed as tokens from the person who sent them. Don't just throw them into a box or onto the top of your desk. Hang them up during this time of year, when it's all about family, friends, love, peace and harmony. Happy Holidays!!
