Ways to Dry Clothing in Limited Spaces

Look and You Will Find!

If you happen to being living in a house or apartment that doesn't allow much room for a drying rack, there are still some things you can use around your home that will work just fine for drying clothes. Here are some possibilities to look out for so you can spot the potential drying space you so desperately seek.

Find a space that is waterproof

Wet clothes mean lots of drips, and you will want to find a space that won't become damaged from dripping clothes. One of the best places to dry clothes is in the shower. You can hang the wet clothes over the shower curtain rod and the water will drip right into the tub.

If you need more space than what the shower curtain rod can provide, just take some nylon cord and tie one end from showerhead to the other end of the shower curtain rod and hang the wet, dripping clothes on the nylon cord to instantly add more space for hanging.

Find space in a basement

You can always find exposed pipes to hang your clothes from in a basement or boiler room. Just make sure that the pipes don't leak, this could cause rust stains on your clothes. To be on the safe side, you can throw hand towels over the pipes and then hang the clothes on the towels.

Find space with an old umbrella

You can easily find room to hang your delicates by tearing off the material of an old umbrella and use the exposed wires as hangers. You can hang the umbrella from the shower curtain rod or from the pipes in the basement or boiler room and you have instant clothes drying hanger. When you're done drying clothes, you can collapse the umbrella and store it away easily until next time.

Find space with clamp clothes hangers

I do this all the time, I keep those clamp clothes hangers that come with the clothes I buy at department stores and use them to hang my clothes to dry. I clamp the wet clothes on the hanger and hang them from the bedroom and bathroom doors in my house. I either hang them right from the top of the door or I use door hooks hanging from the door. This is one of my favorite ways to hang my jeans to dry. I hang them at night before I go to bed and in the morning, they're dry and ready to wear.

It's easy to find space to dry clothes in limited spaces if you just know where to look. So next time you need to dry wet clothes and you don't think you have enough room, think again and try some of these solutions.

    Now that's resourceful.

Very practical ideas. I just wish I could figure out how to make things dry more quickly, past the basic roll up in a towel technique (because then I have to dry the towel). The winter weather here is extremely damp.

The umbrella suggestion is really creative, Dina. Even though I have a tumble dryer, I do sometimes miss being able to hang clothes outside on a clothesline to air dry. I have a clothes horse inside the house that I like to hang some delicate items from to dry.

Great ideas... makes me glad I have my clothesline (my solar dryer, as I call it).
