Ways to Encourage Self-creativity

Lori Piper
Have you ever been given an assignment with the thought that completing it would be no problem? After all, you are creative, productive, focused- no problem right?

Time passes, life goes on, and one morning you awake only to cringe with anxiety and horror. That assignment is due tomorrow and you have yet to have your creative juices begin to flow. You realize as you slouch through the rest of the day that you are in a creative funk and you feel there is no way out!

Relax: there is hope. Not all is lost! We can get our creative juices flowing again.

Ways to encourage self-creativity #1

Sometimes an idea just comes to me. Does that happen to you? I am sure it does, after all, you are creative! However, if we do not do something with the idea then it can become lost. Carry around either an electronic means to take notes, or a small notebook. These ideas can come at any time and writing them down can be life saving. Text yourself if nothing else.

Ways to encourage self-creativity #2

Listen to music; classical music. It stimulates that part of your brain responsible for creativity. Ten minutes minimal, but you can listen all you want. Classical music is not just for elevators and waiting rooms. It is for you, me, all of us. Besides, has one of those all -of -a -sudden ideas popped into your head whilst you were in an elevator or waiting room?

Ways to encourage self-creativity #3

Walk! Go for a walk. See what there is to see as you are supplying oxygen to the brain. This in turn will allow you to think more clearly. Get up and walk. No time or your office building is too dreary? Do ten jumping jacks-encourage co- workers and cubicle mates to do the same.

Ways to encourage self-creativity #4

That morning you find yourself faced with a creative deadline- take a warm shower not a hold or cold one. The warmth incites nerve endings in your skin, eliciting the release of endorphins. Endorphins enhance power thinking skills.

Ways to encourage self-creativity #5

Use brainpower. Sudoku or a Rubik's cube are great at brainpower building. Anything that using our ability to problem solve can be helpful on keeping our creative juices flowing. My sister loves logic problems and her creativity is through the roof!

Ways to encourage self-creativity #6

Pick up a dictionary or go online and randomly chose a word. Creative a nonsensical idea around that word. There you have it; your creativity is back. Those word- of- the -day calendars are good for this exercise.

It is all about you and what works for you. Be creative and find your own creative juice flowing exercise.
