Ways to Make Extra Spending Money

Alyssa Russo
If you have some extra time and you want to make a little bit of spending money, there are a few things that you could possibly do. You will not get rich doing these things, but a little bit of extra money can help you pay a few bills or maybe take a vacation that you wouldn't normally take because you didn't have the extra cash.

If you have any items that are in good condition in your house, such as clothing, household items, baseball cards, even perfume, you can sell them on Ebay.com. If you received a bottle of perfume as a gift, and you only used it once or twice and do not care for it, maybe you could sell it on Ebay and see what you can get for it.

Do you have childcare experience? If you have ever taken care of anyone's children while they were not home, you could place an ad in the paper or look for an online nanny or babysitting agency and watch children part time for some extra cash.

Try placing an ad for a pet sitter or contact a pet sitting service. Some people who have pets and go away on vacation could really use the services of someone who can care for their animal. If you like animals, whether it be dogs, cats or even mice, you could place ad in the local paper, online, or with an agency stating that you can take care of their pet while they are gone.

If you would like to help out an elderly person with their groceries, cooking and household duties, you could place an ad in a local paper or look for an agency that caters to the elderly. Some elderly people might just need a few hours a week of your time. You could drive someone back and forth to their doctor appointment. A lot of elderly people need help when they live alone and could benefit from someone who is willing to help and has good people skills.

Can you play an instrument? If so, maybe you could offer to give lessons. You could call schools or place an ad in the paper for people who are looking for lessons playing the guitar, piano or any other instrument that you have good experience with.

Tutoring is good for people who are knowledgeable about certain school subjects. I see ads all the time in the local paper with parents looking for tutors for their child. Tutoring doesn't take much time and you can make some nice extra cash doing it. You might be able to call local schools and see if parents may need tutors for their children.

Go to a temp agency in your area and see if they have any part time job openings available in whatever jobs might interest you. You could write a cover letter explaining what type of part time work you are looking for and your qualifications and experience. Let's say you wanted to apply for a receptionist position, there may be a person in an office who just had a baby and she will be out of work for a few months. The office might contact a temp agency to look for someone with receptionist experience to help out for those few months until their employee comes back to work.
